This may explain:- What about fitting the running gear of a 260bhp Lancia Stratos rally weapon, to a car generally considered to be worse than the Lada Riva that was similarly based on the Fiat 125P?

Well, that's what happened when rally driver Andrzej Jaroszewicz totaled his Stratos on the 1977 Polish rally (having won the 1976 event). The bodywork was beyond repair. Thankfully, the engine and transmission were undamaged and found their way to FSO's Centre for Research and Development, to be mated with of all things a Polonez body!

The result was the Stratopolonez, a rally car with independent front suspension (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_nkw=front+suspension), a Stratos engine mounted in the strengthened FSO shell where the back seats used to be and because the Stratos's wide rear track has remained unchanged - the most hilariously large rear wheel arches I've ever seen.

Top speed was a frightening 142mph, with the dash to 62mph taking just six seconds. Stratopolonez now lives in the FSO museum, but check out the video below of one of the most unlikely automotive marriages.

That was the car that inspired the colour scheme on my Hawk. It looked just right to me.
