Your thoughts please.

The front shocks on my car are the original Spax shocks bought from the then Transformer Cars in the 80s and they're looking a bit past their best.

Should I get them refurbed at Spax or buy new?

If "buy new" what's the gerenal consensus on which are best? Car will mainly be used for road but will see the odd tarmac track once or twice a year.

Rear Ledas seem to be in reasonable shape so planning on simply refurbing those.

Whats the best? Depends on your budget??

Bit of friction for a couple of hundred quid or decent quality for five hundred? Generally get what you pay for with dampers. I once did a swap from stock to Ohlins and the difference it made was pretty big.

Gerry's are £380 including the VAT. Does anyone know which make they are?

How much were the Ohlins?

How about Procomp? They use Protech dampers which get a pretty good name for a budget item. I certainly plan on getting a set for the Westfield some time. IIRC, about £500 for a set of 4 with springs, valved and dynoed to match the car, not just a generic 'damper with 24 clicks, set it on 4'

They do tend to specialise on 7s, but pretty certain they could assist?

Worth a thought but I only need the fronts and I'm not on too tight a budget. Don't need the absolute best but would like something quite decent.

Absolute best maybe 5k apiece but guess thats a bit OTT!

Id have thought some generic Ohlins for around 700 the pair or maybe Nitron?

Gerry's are produced by Gaz.

AVO have a selection of coil overs that would suit

I replaced all my shocks with Gaz items from Gerry, and the handling is transformed. It also feels better over pot-holes and speed-bumps.

Steve,

I can really recommend Dave at Dampertech (GAZ). He's within easy reach of you too (in a village near to J1 on the M18)
Dave was really helpful getting a pair of older Leda struts refurbed for me. He supplies Hawk too, so knows the type of car.
I think a new pair of GAZ front would match up ok with the existing rears, otherwise you'd wanted to go more expensive on all four corners?

Thanks Guys. Nice to get some feedback. I'll give it some thought and let you know which way I went. Steve

I'm thinking of sending mine in to get the valving checked as I heard there was a batch supplied via Hawk that had the wrong (too hard) valving. can anybody remember any of the details of this, or should i send them off to Dave @ Dampertech and see what he thinks appropriate?
