In an effort to help get Silverstone (http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/) sorted for this year, and so Ken knows what to buy.....

We need to know who wants a ticket at the earlybird reduced rate this year.

We need to know this by 24th March 2013, so Ken can purchase them the following week, the last week we can buy them at the reduced rates.

After this time you will have to buy the tickets yourself at the going rate.

To secure a reduced ticket and to show some commitment to the Clubs we are looking for a 50% deposit, the rest to be paid after the AGM.

Please put your names below and we will advise you of the payment method shortly.

I for one would just like to thank Ken once again for the effort he has already put in in securing a site for us, and sorting out the paperwork, ins, etc. etc.

Not sure if like last year he has the Jet Stream fixed for the weekend yet.........:o

Not sure on the cost so could someone please confirm how much it will cost for Sat & Sun, 2 adults and 1 child aged 8 including regular camping or snooxbox hotel?

We have friends who may want to come along with us again 2 adults and 1 child. How many things count on the 2 for 1? I presume both families would have to pay for the accommodation?

Sorry to be a pain....Steve

The Slug
15-03-2013, 20:41
Hi Steve,
Accommodation you need to sort for yourself, and going a few extra miles will be much cheaper......MUCH cheaper....some of us camp in Silverstone own campsite.
Check the Silverstone website for details.
Ken will be the best man for the costs and what 2-4-1 means, drop him a mail or PM

The campsite on Silverstone itself looks quite good. Is it?

The toilet and shower facilties last year at the Donnington Kit Car Show was a bit lacking. Cold shower in the morning and most of the portaloos were 'full' and out of action by the morning. The wife was not impressed.

Sorry If I'm being extreemly dim here  but how much will it cost me to get my wife & my 8 year old daughter in in a car and me in my Hawk for the Saturday and Sunday please? And what or which tickets do I need to get?

Add to that that we'll probably like to camp on the Friday and Saturday night so will need a ticket for that. If we're camping on the Friday but not turning up while late do we need a 3 day pass?

Is it best to PM you re this or even call you to save question after question?

You may be partially in luck. I'd originally booked my usual 2 adults and one child tickets for the whole weekend. Unfortunately, i've had to drastically change my plans to just me attending on the Saturday.

So, there should be some tickets going spare. I suggest that you contact Ken directly.

Nah. No helmet needed. Last year I got into third gear just the once, for about 20 seconds. The rest of the time it was like a rolling road block. Here's film of last year's lap from the Strato's end of the "grid".

Hi Paul,
You need an official club car pass to get your car in.
I didn't get my Stratos ready in time on a previous year, so drove in with my normal car with the Stratos car pass. I was told to move my Corsa off the club stand, out of the circuit and into the public car parks outside.

'Too right Elliott.
Actually it's more than a "pain". in the case of this club, it affects the success of the weekend from the members point of view. Do the organisers know what they've done? I wonder if some of the other stalwart car clubs are affected in the same way, and what their opinion of this situation is?

Have we a gazebo or tentage of some sort? Has the club funds (and the time) to purchase such? If so, we could head out to the car park where the camper will be parked mob handed and get it in.

Having said that, I won't be there until Saturday this year. So, I would get all of the benefit with none of the work! :D

Hi Elliott,

Gazebos will be allowed, no doubt.
A gazebo doesn't provide the same 'hub' for the Stratos club stand in my opinion.
I'm just miffed that it messes up the weekend for the people who do the most work for the club's well being.
It's not just that though, there are quite a few sensible and practical benefits that'll be lost.

This ban, along with the "no walk ups" ticket policy seems to me as if Silverstone are trying to position the Classic as another Goodwood. This would be a shame, IMO.

For you Group C fans:

One XJR-14 is entered by Nic Minassian. That's the all purple one with a bubble cockpit, like Brundle drove at Le Mans.
'Think he was driving that 905 Peugeot that never made it to the race last year? 'Similar era, is it?
I'm not a group C expert. Ask me about ERAs!

A MASSIVE thank you to Martin Santos of Electrical Car Services, Rayleigh, Essex who went far beyond what could be expected from a company.

Yesterday, I took my Hawk out for a pre Silverstone run. After a few miles, the indicators stopped working, as did the near side headlamp lift motor. Not being an auto electrician, I called Hawk Cars for some advice. They immediately gave me Martin's number as he does the wiring looms for their builds.

I gave him a call to see if he could help. What he did was more than admirable and deserves enormous credit and a public pat on the back. He diagnosed the probable cause of the problem - a faulty hazard warning connection. I told him that I needed to get to Silverstone on Friday for the Classic. Martin then said that although he was extremely busy and a man down at work, he would drive from Essex to me in North London after hours to sort it out. Even when I told him that I had to attend a family celebration and that I wouldn't be there, he said he would sort it out.

And he did. He didn't even leave Essex for the fifty mile drive to my place until 8pm and he worked until 11pm sorting out both the electrical problem and the headlamp issue. And for all of that he charged me only £90. Don't forget that he didn't know me from Adam.

So, now I can take my car to Silverstone for the fifth year running. Without Martin, I would have not got it done.

Here's his company's website:

http://www.electricalcarservices.com/

If you want service above and beyond the norm, Martin is the man.

Left the circuit after the cancelled display laps (very sensible decision I thought) had to stop when the screen misted up (note to self: fit heated screen asap), what a great advert for the heated screen group buy!! and then drove home in BIG FAT RAIN with drops the size of golf balls, car was great but discovered it has no potential as a boat!!! roof scoop is equally effective scooping water as air in these circumstances, and there are a couple of areas around the drivers door seal that require more investigation. If you have the window open and the wipers on the slipstream dumps all the cleared water straight through the gap. Car ran perfectly all the way home. On the A120 at Buntingford fork lightning hit the field about 20 yards from where I was, left a big black scorch mark on the ground about 5 metre circumference, and the static in the air made all my hair stand up!! On a final note really good note, nice to see people in the flesh and catch up, thanks to all involved in organizing a really good day.

turbonutter

I also left after the cancelled parade as I didn't fancy pitching a tent in the down pour! The rain going north was the worst I have seen had the window open for a while until a car passed as we were negotiating a lake on the M1 and dumped half of the lake through the window:( had a couple of moments aquaplaning on the A46 888R's come with a warning that they are not good in water - now I know why!
As I pulled into my local shell garage the engine died- out of fuel- perfet timing, but I now know the main tank holds 43 litres.
I think somthing got wet on the way back (other than me) as the engine didn't seem to be firing on all cylinders, so deciden not to risk the drive back:( until further investigation..
Thanks for organising a great day
Cheers neil

After the torrential rain yesterday and spending a night on the trailer mine wasn't happy. It would start and idle no problem but would then die as soon as the throttle was opened. After disconnecting all the electrical plugs and trying to dry everything out it still wasn't happy.
As suspected the throttle position sensor wasn't registering in the ECU as soon as I re-calibrated it by hooking it up to the laptop, everything is good and it picks up no problem. Will give Emerald a call tomorrow to see if this is a known problem, though I suspect it was water ingress somewhere.
A big thanks to all those that helped organise the weekend.

Another great Silverstone Classic and a huge thanks to everyone involved for all their hard work. On the whole I would say we were very lucky with the weather during the day, only the parade lap suffered in the end on the Saturday. If only the previous races hadn't delayed our start I think we would have just missed the down pour!

I think we achived a 19 car turn out on Saturday which looked pretty impressive and I would say the majority of the visitors to the stand thought all the cars were originals.

With the Pirelli girls having hobbled all the way over to our club stand the least I could do was to offer one of the girls a ride back to their base, as it turned out a little too spirited a ride for one of the Silverstone Officials who gave chase immediatley afterwards as so perfectly captured by our resident artist Chris jarvis - it was worth it though :

Hi,

Had a great day on Saturday.
Good to see everybody and my son had,as he says 'the best day ever'.

Returned to my car at about 8pm and thought I had better have a look under the back. As I thought...engine soaked. Quick trip to the burger stand for some paper towel and soaked all the water out of the plug holes.
Fired up first go and off we went. Did anybody go down the road towards Buckingham? My screen was misting up and the rain was pouring in everywhere. Roof vent was like a jet every time the wiper went across. Had to open the windows a crack and just took the spray in the face. Meanwhile my son thinks this is great fun,he really doesn't realise I cant see where i'm going. Got to one flood across the road and watched other cars going through like boats. Took a run up and made it through the first of many.
Was quite relieved to get home and dry out.

Anyway,great photos Vince.

If it's my old car you're talking about, then Chris has it for the bodywork, Hawk louvres and dash, the rest was CAE FG parts. AFAIK, a Litton era chassis but with early CAE wishbones. A real Heinz 57.

Lawrence Castle's (Vojx) was the only completed Corse I know of with a full set of Hawk bodywork fitted. The chassis kit was from the late Litton days prior to Hugh Carson resurrecting the project.
The Corse kit that was for sale on Gumtree recently also looked to have a full set of Hawk bodywork fitted but was still a bare kit so nowhere near finished. The origins of this one remain unknown.

Well, back from Silverstone late on Sunday. I'm now firmly of the opinion that I'm a rain god. Or the Stratos has ambitions to become a swimming pool again. It's not as bad as Stoneleigh last year but I've still got to remove all the interior to dry it out properly. I think I caught up with the rain that hit Silverstone on Saturday evening and headed off North overnight just North of Stafford and was reduced to 35mph max from there until I came out the other side half way up the M57. By the time I got home it had caught me again. There was standing water on the M6, multiple minor accidents and I had two "moments" getting spat sideways out of the nearside lane lorry tramlines with a lot of oversteer to correct it SCAREY. Just glad to get home in one piece really! Fortunately the heater and fan could keep the screen clear otherwise I would have had to park up somewhere..

Great to catch up with faces old and new though! See you all next year!

Definately the same one Chris, managed to get a couple of pictures just after it slipped by! Just back from hols.. Looks like Me and Will missed another good one this year...

For those with 24v and misfires after the heavy rain, check rear 1,2,3 plug holes, mine seem to attract water and fill up in bad weather, making for extremely rough running.
tip if using an air line to clear the water out...... Stand well back or use eye protection!

Calendar shots of the Pirelli girls please.. :-)
