As some of you will know I have been working on a undertray / splashguard for a while, having originally worked from a rough brown paper template we have gradually got to the stage of having an accurate pdf, and the prototype you can see in the pictures, There are still a couple of things that need doing (rear fixing holes and relief around the towing eye) then the first production version will be going onto Rene's Hawk rebuild. I have deliberately used the words undertray / splashguard, it is not designed to be a sumpguard-or what would have been if it wasn't mid-engined.

:D

First fitting of the actual splashguard, still a little bit of work to do around the towing eye (to leave room for a shackle or rope) final holes drilled, nice flush floor and fits like a glove

It doesn't look like that for long!

Finished item, with the fabricated recess for the tow rope or shackle. Rene this is the prototype cleaned up, not your new pristine version, the swirl marks are the brake cleaner used to remove the indelible ink.

Looks good Griff, Will it affect the cooling do you think?

I,ve had an undertray fitted to mine from the start (very similar design) no problems with cooling.

Alan, good to get confirmation that cooling is unaffected, does it help with turbulence under the car at all?

That bit round the towing eye looks an improvement on my original.
Are they going into production?

Once we have Rene's one finished, and ironed out all the little bugs, made the front fixing washer bars, and fitted the "anti-rattle" tape, then we will be in a better position, but the plan is to do a small run if everything goes to plan. It has taken hours and hours to get this far. If its feasible, I want to do it complete with all the nuts, washers, and bolts, so that you don't need to look for anything additional. Lastly there will probably need to be a minimum order number to justify setting up the various stamping, folding, and cutting instructions on the machines.

Its got to help, with the undertray fitted its almost flat bottomed. I'm thinking of making one for the rear.

I have spoken to the fabricator this morning, and we can now produce a small run of these at a cost of £250 each, if anybody is interested can you let me know

Just a little update to say that I finally fitted my undertray last night, gave it a good run, and temperature guage was rock steady in its normal position, just under 90 degrees indicated. Seems a little quiter on the road, maybe its cut the trubulence down under the car? thoughts please.

Wrt cooling - airflow through the radiator needs to come out somewhere. You don't want it to go under the car, so the tray helps this. Just make sure there is a greater exit area from under the front than the inlet area. Louvred alone won't be enough- allow some escape into the wheel arches / rear edge of front clam.

Chris, there is no impedence of airflow into the wheel arches, in fact the size of the hole around the suspension becomes more obvious against the very obvious undertray inner. Took the car to Kings Lynn and back yesterday (22nd), and a bit of running around while there, including quite a bit of 70mph cruising, I was paying very, very close attention to the temperature guage all day, but everything was fine so far.
