My 1st MOT is coming up and the TB's look a little suspect so time to change. It's a toss up between
another set up Michelin's or try the Pirelli's.
Any suggestions of the best source / price for the Pirelli's? Longstone appear to be the only place stocking the TB's.

As much as I prefer the new Pirelli's grip levels compared to the Michelins, the Pirelli tread depth is ridiculously shallow, they don't appear to be far off being the legal minimum depth requirement new out of the box!

They are a phenomenal tyre but you'll probably get more life out of another set of TB's.

I haven't had a chance to push the new Pirelli's hard in the wet yet but the dry grip they offer sure makes them my number one choice in tyres.

Vince.

Performance tyres never have full depth tread as the tread block movement creates to much heat. toyo 888's have 4mm when new!

Pirelli make the tyres for competition cars that use that size, designed to last a few tarmac stages maybe, not designed for longevity.

How about these as an option (http://www.citytyre.co.uk/tyre-3998-345_35ZR15_95_Y_PIRELLI_ZERO_A.htm)? Good price if they actually have any in stock.

I agree, it would be great if they could offer the same tread pattern in a road going tyre.

P Zeros are great.
345 not everyone's cup of tea, but I like them. lasting much longer than earlier P7's and Yoko's so far, with much better grip too.

Citytyres is a dead end!! Seems they've not traded for years and the site dead! I thought Google was intelligent!!

Now I've installed the new shocks I need some new tyres so I can get the car set up properly. What was the net result of this lot above me? I have, I think 11" rear rims and again I think 7" front rims. I say 'think' as the tyres are still on and can't get an accurate measure. The current Pirelli 345s on the rear are too wide. I'll be doing some track days but the main use will be on the road. Mel did show me some of the tyres he had but as Vince has said earlier, the tread was very shallow and I would like more than that ideally. Of course I want to get them as competitively priced as possible. Any suggestions as to type and where to get them from? Thanks in advance. :)

ps Currently have 225/50 R15 on the front and 345/35 ZR15 on the rear.

Actually HERE (http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/car-tyres-215-55-15.html) seems to be favourable, they are listing both sizes, Fronts @ £296 ea, rears @ £341.68 ea. Should be vat inclusive at those prices inc delivery.
I've had nothing but good service from this company in the past.
You could try Longstone on a price match as they do offer good service too.

Did someone say a while ago that it was about the same cost to buy a new set of LB 16" & 17" front and rear wheels with tyres as it costs for a set 15" tyres alone?

The higher degrees of replication tend not to be easily affordable.
17" coffin spokes are either unacceptable, or a brilliant idea. It's all down to owner preference, as ever.

Sounds Close...unless the prices have gone up a lot.
Craig will answer you best on that one.

It would be the other way, a set of LB GP4 wheels & tyres would cost about the same as a set of GP4 15" wheels alone.

If there had been a suitable 16" rear tyre available for a GP4 car then there wouldn't have been a 17" wheel option but it was the same story that everything available was predominantly a track/race tyre so there was no logic to it.
I understand that the 16/17" combination isn't to everyone's taste but it is an option that opens up a few more tyre combinations for some people.
Just to clarify it is also possible to fit 15" wheels on the LB, it is not restricted to the 16/17" combination.

Spoke with Craig today then with Simon at Longstone Tyres. I've managed to strike a nice deal with Simon so will be paying him a visit some time very soon as he's not far from me. A little more expensive than Pneus but I think it's good to support local business. Going for the 18/60-15 Michelin TB15 (http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/18-60-15-michelin-tb15.html) & 26/61-15 Michelin TB15 (http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/26-61-15-michelin-tb15.html). Going to have the existing tyres removed so I can then refurb the alloys before having the new TBs fitted. Happy days.

An option taken up on every LB up and running so far, so fully justified.

2 GP4 customers have opted for the 15" option so far (not up & running though), the rest have gone with the 16/17" combination, Stradale runs 16"/16".

I will be running a set of 15" Wheels and tyres for going to the shows and I have already put a deposit down with ListerBell for the 16/17" wheel combination for doing any events. This will give me a better option of track & race tyres without breaking the bank................;)

Finally managed to find the time to get to Longstones today to pick up my nice new Michelin TB15s. Simon there did me a nice price and their service was excellent taking time not to damage the wheels etc.. I even managed to blag a couple of free "period gentlemen's entertainment posters on my way out" ;) Should look nice on my garage walls. Top blokes that I would definitely recommend and for what it's worth they had all sorts of tyres on stock including the P7s in 345 etc. etc..

Off with the old

on with the new

and back at home ready to go on when I refit the refurbished suspension.:D
