Hi All,
After not using my car for the last three years I am thinking of using it again this year but need to change the exhaust system as the car is too loud for me and our NCT (MOT). Over the past twelve years I have change the exhaust silcencers three time but they only lasted about a week before the padding was burn out of them, I assume becasue my pipes are too short ? I now have another system where the pipes go a longer route, I assume this will reduce the heat to the baffles ?
My question is has any one got photo showing how they gone it before I go at it ?

Picture of my current exhaust system,

This is the system I picked up recently,

I think this system came off a Hawk, slight difference to Corsa as the pipe will hit the frame but that I can modify and make it suit but would like to see how someone else routed the pipes.

Thanks .
Gerard.

It may not help Gerard but have a look in the Gallery at the Ref pics

I'd still bring the link pipes outside of the chassis as you had them before rather than trying to feed one around the diff & inside of the chassis rail. It may mean that the silencers sit a little farther back than you have them positioned in the picture but it will make the links a whole lot easier to manufacture. The Litton chassis is very vertical at the back so leaves very little gap to get pipework through, the engine in a Hawk (system does look like it came from a Hawk) tends to sit slightly farther forward & the rails are angled back at the base so it is possible to bring the link pipes out forward of the rear chassis rails.
If possible make the rear engine bank feed the rear most silencer as this puts about 6" more tube before the silencer (negligible I appreciate) as its a very short system on that bank anyway.
Biggest problem I would say was the size of silencer on the old system & that the silencers were probably not designed to be that close to the manifolds hence they were burnt or blew their wadding out quickly. The new silencers are larger diameter, longer & repackable so you can be more selective in the material you fill them with.
What diameter pipes are on the new system 2" or 2.25"?

Its not quite the same around the manifolds as this is for a 2.5 24v but this is how we do ours.

That looks like it will work fine & not too far back either.

Hi Neil,
Finally finished it, Yes worked out better than I thought, not back too far at all.

Before I fitted the exhaust system I opened it for a look ! Can any one please tell me what sort of material this is ? Just in case I want to get another system made for the other car, as this is definatley quiter than any one I had before.
Thanks,
Gerard.

Not sure what that is, but if you google exhaust silencer packing, there are many similar looking products around....

Acousta Fil seems to be well regarded, shop around, prices vary.

Those original silencers definitely looked pretty small for the engine (though expect they sounded good). For info, the Hawk silencer box incorporates a double run for each bank. Manifold link pipe goes in one side of the box, out the other to a loop then back in for further silencing before exiting.

In any case, your larger silencers look like they should allow you to control the noise levels well enough.
