View Full Version : Tour Britannia 2014
After the good shake down in France I have entered Nellie in the above event, just preparing her at the moment, if you care to look at the entry list apart from me and Helen a certain Tiff Needell is entered this year..... I dare say he will be pestering me for my autograph !.... NOT.... LOL.............. Unfortunately ERIC will not be ready in time and also I will not get the time to do much testing... so hopefully next year ERIC will be entered.
So if anyone is around come and give us a look, details are here http://www.tourbritannia.com/
Cheers

Whilst doing final checks today found one of the drive shaft rubber boots had been cut by a foreign object throwing grease out of the cv joint..... Bugger ... As I only replaced all of them a few weeks ago......So set too with the strip down and luckily had a spare boot in stock.... All back together and road tested ok....
Woooow!!!
Lucky you are to find this before to leave !!! some broken CV was right there if you didn't chek that !!
Don't you have any "underski "stuff in thick alu of even kevlar ? to prevent that under the whole engine bay

no I don't have an under tray ..... Not quite sure how this would affect an the engine bay with little airflow as it is... .? Although Steve Perez runs with an under tray on his rally car (original Stratos).....
When we meet again on my next come to ---- ! I will show you how to built on one very efficient in kevlar carbon with 2 naca on it so it will cover undertray but leave 2 good intakes for refreshing engine !!
Easy to mold ! we even can built one as am there !! need only some plywood bend onto MDF stuff et voila !! and then mold directly onto this loosen mold a nice "racing" part ( I did some for R5 maxi turbo and if I remind for one or two stratos in early days of Andruet or some one car

Noticed the lb chassis has neat sumpguard mounts already welded on.
Noticed the lb chassis has neat sumpguard mounts already welded on.
yes ! that's nice indeed
But for a Hawk or watever chassis we can use tpered rivets ( I know a good source of these that do not turn at all when tighting bolt on them once riveted)
@ Ducatiman ;
Yes !! no problem at all we just have to draw some 3D sketches ( as I don't know how an hawk is !!) and I can maybe (before going to Phill next time ) prepare some stuff for the mold and source the epoxy resin needed and Kevlar clothes
These "skis" are molded with vacuum process to give a lot of strenght to the Material but as the part is not very surface complcate it's really a joke to do the vacuum bag and the following process
If Phill is happy to do one ; let's see what we can do .........
Hi
Anyone interested in following the event the on line progress results can be found here http://results.djames.org.uk/results/index.php?e=338
Also some good news.......... Steve Perez and Paul Spooner have entered in the Strato's !!!............. so now I won't be the FIRST Strato's to finish !!... LOL

Down to second after stage 3 - must be a tactical move to get the Renault to sweep the road for him on day 2!
Keep at it Phil but stay safe!
Guy

Guy

Perez had oil surge issues with the Stratos a couple of days before the event so changed his entry to an Escort.
It's very easy to do when you have a collection of competition cars at hand, just spoilt for choice. and I don't mind admitting i'm green with envy.
Looks like our man has won the post historic's, ahead of the much feared Quattro.
Phil and Helen were neck and neck with the Bianchi Renault, but it looks like the little French car has dropped out after stage 11.
Well done!
I have some photos on my wife's phone but can't download them at the moment!
YES !!! Phill is getting an other great success !!!!! and as planed beginning of week Stratos uber ALLES !!!!!
So if it remains like that it's not necessary to own millionaire's real Stratos to win races !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Phil was in top 10 times on 12 of the 16 stages. Very consistent and a credit to Phil & Helens team work and the cars reliability. Well done guys. If I'm not mistaken, thats 3 class wins in 3 years.
Mick
We'll done Phil & Helen on your win
xxx John & Carol
Absolute congratulation to Philip and Helen !
Nice and serious prep; so good win !
Bravo mon ami !
Hi all
ok here goes
got the timing for practice at Oulton (race1) all wrong.... I hadn't raced there before so I followed someone who had... I followed for 3 laps then backed off to "go for it" ...however the rain came and I qualified about 12th..... Then for the race it was hammering down....driving into a wall of spray... I got a good start but the guys in front didn't so no where to go.... Had a dice with a rapid Fulvia 1.6hf who I got passed in a couple of laps then moved up to Mike Smith in. Mk1 escort and overtook him only to spin out ... No damage done... I then set off to chase him down again.... Caught up with him to finally cross the line in a dead heat for 11th equal.....
prior or to the event I chose to take Michelin wets... That proved to cost me dearly in the next 2 dry races at Anglesey !.... But on the stages they held up pretty good... In the races they felt like driving on jelly tyres....
i guess you you can see the stage times online, we had a really good event finishing 7th overall and 1st in the Post
Historics.... We had some surprising placings even finishing joint 1st on one stage and beating the eventual winner on a couple of stages.......so quite happy as we were self supported with nobody changing our tyres or bleeding our brakes !
thanks to Mel and John Davidson for coming along to give moral support
thanks to all the organisers and Marshall's of Tour Britannia
Cheers
Phil and helen
Some piccies at www.sbkmotorsport.com
Forgot to say that I suffered a seized rad fan which blew the fuse so it took out both fans, this resulted in a very hot engine at the start of the first Anglesey race and at the same part of the circuit on each lap the engine would cutout for about 100 metres...... So I started to go backwards down the field...... Got it sorted for race two but only running one fan... Just managed to finish the race before the engine got too hot.... I did have the cabin heater on full blast to help the situation !!....
Well done Phil and Helen.
Looks to have been a blast.
Conditions at Oulton were really dire for the race.
Pictures on the professional photographers site are witness to that.
You are not the first or last to spin out of Old Hall, that's for sure. One of the best places to do it!
Glad the rest of the event went well despite the rad fans issues.
Hey Phill
Next year it will not be so easy !! you will have to watch your mirrors some french S..... Strat will follow you close , very close !! ( Hummm ยงยง hope so if everythng runs ok with the built ???) LOL
