Baumgartner must be a photoshop - there wasn't a photographer within a few miles when he broke the barrier.
706670677065Well spotted, I guess it's too late to say it was a well timed snap out of a passing aeroplane window? I'm not sure that's the real Santa either. ;)
Selfie Chris? :-)

Nought to sixty very quickly. This was one event I was able to witness, make sure you always use quality fixings.
7089.
In the years I had a yacht this was always one of my greatest fears: straps either breaking (they're hardly operating in a pristine environment) or slipping and allowing the "load" to shift unexpectedly. This one looks like the actual strap gave way which can only be a result of poor maintenance and operating procedures. Looks like it missed the edge of the quay by only a few inches (if it even missed it).
It missed the quay Jeff and luckily very little damage to the boat.

The RTA96-C being towed out of the assembly shop above is only a 6 cylinder - to get the full 109000bhp & 5608312 lb/ft of torque (at 102 RPM) you would need the full 14 cylinder version - and yes that is 5.6 million lb/ft torque!

Scaffolding Chinese style 2005..... you will note the complete lack of horizontal platform to walk on, the distance between each "ladder" section was arbitrary, it only appeared to be attached to anything solid at the top and bottom, hardly any of the operatives had safety harnesses (if they did very few were attached), bottom of the damper was approx. 6metre off the floor and the Damper (silver and yellow bit) was 12m tall x 8m wide, helmets falling off heads / dropped spanners - tools was an hourly occurrence, ..... an they wondered why I wouldn't climb it !!
I also witnessed Flaming Oxy Acet pipe's on top of the cylinders and at the torch end !.....and the guy still carried on working !.............. the list went on and on
