I can't remember exactly but it will be an RAL colour; Google for a colour chart.

Does grey predate the red chassis colour Colin?

I guess it was a RAL as it was powder coated... Found the RAl colour charts on screen but this does not help due to screen (not calibrated) is not in the garage!!!!
Anyone know???

I think we offered a choice ( limited!).
You could always ring Spyder in Peteboro', they are still in business.

I see?
I've seen photos of this car:

with a grey coloured chassis and no removable bar at the back of the engine cradle.
I think it was post Beta wishbones though?

That car is the original Transformer prototype/demo car and its chassis was painted grey unlike the first production cars which were black. Since being sold to Germany it has had a few mods/updates! Originally the engine/trans were mounted on the donor(beta) subframe and was fitted from underneath, so the car didn't need the rear bar to be removable.

I see? That makes sense now.
I know that car is the very first one. It must have gone through quite a lot of chassis development, very early on? A test bed?
I understand there were two other cars with the Beta subframe (No. 2 and No. 3?). One a purply blue, which ended up in Scotland, and the other in Chequered Flag Mintex 1976 livery.
Purply Blue?
Is that the ex-Justine Moore, ex-Simon Dickens car that Mark has now?

Mark, as in Mark McCaughran?
So Justine Moore and Simon Dickens are the previous owners, John?
If it's the same car Chris, yes.
I think Justine's father built it for her.
And I think that was Mick Moore who I seem to remember was an active rally competitor back in the day.
Was it TR8's he used to pedal around?
Simon bought it from Justine's I think and if I remember correctly Steve Struthers' Allora also passed through Simon's hands.

Coming back to the paint colour I contacted Spyder who could not help as they worked to Transformer Cars intructions either bare chassis or stove enamelled to Gerry Hawkridges instructions.
i guess the best way will be to take the rear cross member to my paint wholesaler.
my Chassis number is SPY0831187....

So the answer on colour is not a RAL colour (it was close but not close enough). So had some grey/blue paint mixed from a sample chip that matched....
