That was really enjoyable to watch, thanks for posting. On another note, this July in Ann Arbor, Michigan I believe there will be a couple of stratos at the Concours America. For those of us in the Midwest, it will be a rare chance to see some neat stuff.

Its still a shame they see the replica as somehow devaluing the originals, when in truth it's the replica's that people see more often than not, and keep the memories alive of the originals.
It would be nice to see an invitation, all be it if your parked in a separate area, for our cars.

Whilst Mr Popper draws breath it will never happen !

Mr Popper was nowhere to be seen this weekend, none of his collection were there AFAIK. We drew a lot of attention with the jackets and the people how found out that I had a replica were fine about it. Had we been there in the car and attempting to join in a paid for event it might have been different though.

Agree entirely. I had an interesting contact with an Italian who guested a Fulvia meeting I attended recently in Cuneo. He has 3 real Strato'sss and heard I had a Strato's and was actually perfectly fine when I told him it was a replica. When I showed him a few pics he said he didnt understand why it wasnt a replica colour (my car is a special paint job of 3 shades of grey). When I advised him that as a replica I am not trying to pass off an original but making the car to my own tastes(actually an earlier owner did this) he fully understood, and we spent a happy hour or so looking at his Strato'sss. Green Stradale, and 2 Gp4's developed for rally cross which is his addiction.

When I took my car to the Lancia Motor Club AGM last weekend even the president remarked on what nice example it was, when in truth the only Lancia bit is the handbrake lever and the badge on the from....And when I stopped for petrol near Corby a group of drifters (Mitso Evo's etc) where resting up after a track day at Rockingham came over with the cameras....

We have a duty to be out there as all the real ones are in Museums

I agree with you. It's the same with other clubs. Am fortunate to have several cars that I love but are periodically picked over by 'experts' and frowned on for not being 'original' (which as far as I can fathom means access to a high quality printer to churn out the 'original' seat belt and windscreen stickers...). I like to make my cars work well and I enjoy worrying the white Audis in the fast lane of the M40. In the rain. And in November. The 'original' cars seem to journey from trailer to manicured lawn but only when the sunshines. Not in anger. They are the ones losing out...

Thanks for the photo's Guy... keep 'em comin'

Not sure about the "new" dash panel on the Rino Fabbri car !

Were the "dog kennel" photo's taken at Autosport (ex Maglioli) in Biella ??...... I'm sure that I have met that guy before

Cheers

Thanks for the photos Guy.
No they could never be boring.

There are so many inaccuracies with the detailing on some. 'Spose it doesn't matter if they're real?
Not with the likes of the Reno Fabbri car though. It's a thing to behold.

A few more - not sure if this is the original F&M Special or a replica.

Guy Mayers

Something that struck me at the meeting was the ratio of "Group 4" cars to Stradales - Of the 40 odd cars there only 4 or 5 were standard Stradale cars.... If you look at pictures from earlier World Stratos Meets it's the other way round.

It's also surprising how many of the "Group 4" cars have standard dashes and how many with the Group 4 dashes are populated with Stradale gauges.

thicko question coming..... On the RF car injection....why are the injectors in the bells rather than slightly lower down in the inlet runner??....... Does it give better mixture or finer spray ?
saw an Alfa 12v engine once which had two sets of injectors (second set came in at 3000rpm)

Guy Mayers
30-06-2016, 20:01
I'lll leave that question to an engineer Phil......

Do you mean Christian Mineff Tom?
If so, which reg.?

Phil ... with mecanical injection is sometime advisable to have injectors on top of butterfly throttles in order to have an equivalent ratio of air and fuel but also prevet on cold start to fill too much fuel directly to the cylinders causing misfiring and spark missing !
On the 908 Porsche tested both postions and finally the best result at Le mans for fuel comsumption was on top of stack and not directly onto the head ( watch how high my red stacks are in my RSR 3 l engine

9926
Modern engines with ECU management can have those very close to the valve because there is always a plenum giving plenty of air into the stacks and fuel quantity is driven by ecu and lambda of course

Bernard
30-06-2016, 21:27
Thanks for the explanation Michel....they are really long bells on the Porsche engine !

That's a thing of beauty isn't it! I assume the chains on the tennis balls are for retrieval if you forgot to take them off before cranking the motor?

Chris,

KKL 54N Im sure used to be Christian Hrabalek's car. Used to be in storage just down the road from me.
Went to Italy when he 'sold' some of the cars and the plate never changed.

It's all about getting a better mixture of fuel and air. With a road car, it spends the bulk of its life at low Rpm which mean low air flows down an inlet runner or manifold. Best place for the injector is at the back of the valve. If it was further out, you can have fuel drop out, basically the fuel ends up running down the manifold wall. Once airflow increases, with the injector at the back of the valve, the fuel spray doesn't have time to mix properly with the air so at that point, it's better to inject the fuel further up in the air stream to get a better mixture. On a race engine you may see dual injectors, one behind the valve, the other outside of the trumpet, the injection will be staged, lower one spraying at lower rpm, the outer one either adding to or taking over from the lower one. All superbikes now have dual injectors as standard. The outer injectors normally have around 12 holes to create a more atomised spray pattern.
I have the secondary shower injectors on my Alfa engine, untried yet, might add a little power, might not butshould clean up the fuelling. More of a tinkering or pub bragging rights thing TBH.
Other thing to note is its not safe running showers and having wasted spark ignition, chance of a big bang or fire. They need to be fitted inside a closed environment, like a yellow fibreglass cold air box, while the injectors spray, you can get fuel standoff which if you've never seen, it's like a big cloud of semi atomised fuel, above the trumpets.
Pic shows hurricane racings modified busso, 400 HP, 10,000rpm, slide throttles and if you look carefully, I think a total of eighteen injectors.

'Hrabalek', of course.
The Pirelli liveried car. There's lots of photos of it parked next to a his red Stradale, from that time.
I think they were maybe from an AutoItalia article?
