Hi guys,

i'm not a Lancia guy myself, i just registered here since i have this particular steering wheel.

I'm actually a momo collector but during one of my many browsing moments, i bumped into this steering wheel. I had visited the forum before and i remembered reading about a lancia Stratos ferrero steering wheel. I know there seem to be replicas of the original version as these sell for big bucks but as far as my knowledge goes, i thought the replicas had a different ferrero script. Anyway, i'm here to see what i have is the real deal and in addition, see if there's someone around here, interesting in buying it. I have to admit i have already received a good offer but in case it is a real ferraro, i know it could sell for more too. And since i'm in quite of a financial crisis...

So, this is the steering wheel i'm talking about. The condition is what i would call a bit rough. There is little surface rust on the front of the spokes and sslghtly more on the rear. The leather is a bit old and the right side of the wheel is showing some crackles. Don't know if this can be completely solved with some leather treatment but it would definitely help a bit. I don't know anything about the hub, let's just assume it's not included...

Hi,

The steering wheel is a Stratos Stradale item.
The hole in the centre is oversized.
The horn button is not OE to any Lancia I know, but very rare and interesting.
Value is roughly something between £500 and £1000, depending on condition.
The hub looks like something off a BMW. I might be wrong with that though.

Hi,

thanks for the info!
I figured the horn button was not original to the stratos but it is original to the steering wheel likely. In case someone is interested in it, i have another one in one of my many horn button boxes. I've held on to it for in case i would ever end up buying a ferrero wheel and now i did, it came with the exact same button.
Like i said, i have no idea about the hub, i haven't inspected it to be honest.
Sounds like the offer i have received of 1k was a good offer. The leather is a bit dry in places, not sure how many of this can be resolved by giving it a good treatment.

Thanks,
Robin

If anyone is looking for a replica steering wheel Gerry is about to order another batch. Last lot didn't stay on the shelf long so if you're interested drop him a line or give him a call.

And for those sending me PM's asking about the boss for the steering wheel...

That eBay ad refers to the boss as having the same wheel mounting holes as a Momo boss - is this the case? If so, presumably that means that the wheel would fit onto my MX5-splined boss that would fit in an LB?

Sounds promising Richard! I used to have a MoMo wheel on my car which had the same boss. What starring column are you using? Fiat X19? If you want to pop across to Liverpool one evening/weekend you can check out the hub on my car and the Fiat X19/Fiat 124 columns here.

The LB uses a custom column which only uses the outer upper column and shroud from the X1/9. MX5 splines at the top, I believe!

Cheers,
Richard

Guy,
Is the hub in your link 75mm pcd or 70mm pcd?
It claims to be MOMO fit, but it looks more like the factory supplied Spider Ferrero (75mm) type?

Richard,
If it needs an MX5 hub with 75mm pcd, there's no such thing.
You'd need to engineer something.

I've got one of this style
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Fiat-Bertone-X1-9-steering-wheel-hub-boss-kit-Factory-OEM-Excellent/152711897351?
as fitted to the X1/9 Bertone steering wheel - the screw pcd matched my momo wheel, can't remember whether the central raised boss was the right size for the momo wheel though as I machined it off to allow me to bolt a quick-release adaptor between the hub and the momo wheel.

Not tried to fit it yet so may all be moot if the steering column shaft splines have been modified - very interested to hear more on this thread.

The two big questions are:

1. Are the new Hawk steering wheels 75mm pcd?
2. Are the LB steering columns Mazda MX5 splines only?

Gerry told me "the hole pattern is exact as original" and he forwarded me this both photos
On my new steering wheel for the LHD conversion we used a quick release adaptator
It's very convenient for using with different wheels, allowing easy sit and secure the car!

Hope this could help more !

I can understand why it might be needed to modify the bottom end of the steering column (to work with different rack config) but can't see why anyone would modify the steering wheel end if retaining the existing x1/9 column shroud, stalks, horn button wiring etc.

In that case, 75mm pcd.

I prefer the one that has the bolt heads showing.

Is that an IVA thing?

and now I understand - as usual, I'd forgotten about IVA requirements

PLEASE NOTE:

Regarding the Ferrero steering wheels used on the Lancia Stratos, the 6 bolt fixing pcd is 75mm.

The 6 bolt fixing pcd on the Ferrero steering wheels fitted to Fiat 124 Spiders are 70mm. (see below).

Only €2300, and the hole in the middle has been enlarged:

Ferrero 4 spoke (https://www.ebay.it/itm/Volante-Ferrero-per-Lancia-Stratos/183270169892?hash=item2aabc0dd24:g:V5QAAOSw~Q9bH40X)

Somehow, i landed here again after all this time, jsut to find my own for sale ad. If i remember correct, i don't think i have ever sold this steering wheel so if anyone is interested, please let me know and i'll have a search when time allows me to. However, it will not be for the upcoming week so no rush please.

Thanks,
Robin
