Hi everyone,

If you've owned your car long enough, it becomes more than just a car, but rather an extension of the family, a faithful steed or an old friend. Here we look at motorists who have owned the same car for 30 / 40 / 50 years.

Do you have you own Forever Car?

I have owned my car since 1987 and put it through 29 MOT's. The car has been insured Adrian Flux ever since.

I had one and I sold it last year :(. But it was to fund the Statos build so every cloud........

Lotus 340R. No 155 or 340 made. Voted second place in Evo's Top 10 Greatest driver's cars - just behind the Pagani Zonda.

If being the greatest drivers’ car meant having the world’s best steering then the Lotus 340R (http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evolongtermtests/236368/lotus_340r.html) (or any mk1 Elise/Exige) would be standing on the top step. ‘The 340R is like an Elise turned up to 11,’ says unlikely Spinal Tap fan Metcalfe. ‘The chassis composure when really pushed is beyond brilliant; it’s close to unbelievable’. John Simister has the 340R at the top of his list ‘for its speed, purity, transparency and compactness. It provides a huge visceral buzz yet doesn’t assault you with the wrong sort of “noise”.’ ‘Sublime,’ says Barker.

I'm beginning to regret selling it if I'm honest! Prices seem to be marching upwards very quickly. I joked with the owners' club that prices would run away as soon as I sold mine and it looks like the joke might be on me!

The day it sold....

Maybe you should have tried a slightly more believable number, like 85% :D

Following on from my response to Dan earlier on in the above thread, a chap called Matt Ware contacted me. Would I be interested in featuring my car in Adrian Flux's Forever Cars section. I subsequently had a long telephone conversation with him detailing the history of my car, this was then followed up by a photo shoot .

Here is the link to the finished article. https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/forever-cars/davids-undimmed-passion-self-built-stratos-replica/

Well done, that's a nice piece. It's well written and the photographs compliment the article nicely as well.
It certainly puts some of the current kit car journo's to shame.

Really well written! Something nice to add to your car's history portfolio, too!

What a great article! You must be like a pig in poo with that! I remember getting mine back in '87, with Stuart Gross delivering the body/chassis unit and me looking at it and thinking similar stuff to your father :) But, y'know, it wasn't such a bad kit really. I mean, if I managed to get it on the road it must have been a reasonable proposition! Did you imagine you'd still have it 30 years later? I thought, when I saw it on the August run, it had a fantastic patina, properly used but still good. Congrats, and here's to another 30 years, assuming you can still get in it when you're 90 :)

What a well written article and a great story with lovely pictures! I had written away and had brochures for the Transformer and Allora, then got as far as the CAE build manual, but couldn’t afford it then. Finally started 30 years later...:D. I love the simplicity of it all. Do keep on enjoying it David!

Btw, what type of seats are they in your car?

Henry

I bought the seats from Chris Jarvis, they are black leather and were sourced from an S1 Lotus Exige.
