View Full Version : Garage Day in the South

Hi all,

Just wondering how much interest there would be in a bit of a "Garage Day" south of London? In reality no spanners will be taken up in anger, but amounts of tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches would be available and hopefully some socialising with some Stratos focus regarding building/maintaining the car (or what ever take our fancy on the day).

We've a bit of space for cars to park, something of a "barn find" sitting in the garage (yes, the Strat is covered with dust but there's hope for it yet). I've not picked a date, rather wanting to see what people thought, but it would have to be on a Saturday as I have to work most Sundays.

So, what do you recon? Jane and I live just outside Uckfield in East Sussex (see the members map) in what appears to be rather sparsely 'stratified' area but perhaps there are a few of you under deep cover who might surface with the right encouragement. Who knows?

Over to you,
Jeff and Jane

Hi Jeff - yes I'd be interested although only about 2/3 of way through my LB build at the moment (now awaiting bodywork)

There's absolutely no requirement for people to arrive in a Strat' .. I can't!

Just want to try and encourage some sort of local get together, put faces to names, offer encouragement (or humor as appropriate) and see if we can't get something together from time to time to "fill in" the gaps between the big events. I know I've considered heading up to Phils or Neils Garage, but the distances involved means either a rather long day or stop overs making it expensive.

Anyone have suggestions for possible dates?

Saturday 8th July then, any time after 10am.

Finding us should be simple but often doesn't seem to be the case so you looking for this place: HERE (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/50%C2%B056'29.8%22N+0%C2%B008'50.8%22E/@50.9417086,0.1472404,3a,75y,118.21h,88.47t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sOgc_AWRqDdzGO0yrp8iX4Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x47df6664aaceb917:0xd3316c12e67fa869!2sFramfield,+Uckfield+TN22+5RE!3b1!8m2!3d50.939346!4d0.1439532!3m5!1s0x47df666506223579:0x217ef01b5927d2ec!7e2!8m2!3d50.9416218!4d0.1474437). The overhead power lines are a fairly obvious land mark :)

Just heading for TN22 5RE gets you to within a couple of hundred meters.

Hello, I am new to the club and live in Weymouth and would like to meet a few Stratos enthusiasts, as I am considering building a Stratos and would like some advice. Would it be o.k. if I came along.
Regards,

I would make the trip depending on dates. August is a possibility?

Let me take the opportunity to ask members to go to the MEMBERS MAP and put them selves on it!!!!!!!!!

THE MORE WE CAN SEE WHO IS WHERE THEN THIS OFFERS A LOT MORE OPPORTUNITY TO ORGANISE LOCAL GET TOGETHERS

OK thanks Jeff - looking forward to meeting you and fellow enthusiasts !(Tim - I'm on the Club map!)

Hi Mark,

All welcome. As we're a little new at this "garage day" thing down here, it might not have the polished finish that one of Phils now world famous garage days, but every one is welcome.

August is a possibility?

Perhaps I jumped on a date a bit quickly, but fancied picking a date sooner rather than later. There's nothing stopping people organising something later on, perhaps in an easier location.

Hi Jeff are we still on for next Saturday 8th July ?

Hi Jeff are we still on for next Saturday 8th July ?

Yes.

I've trapped the sciatic nerve my left side so I'm a little immobile at the moment (actually sitting in a normal car is painful so I can't imagine what getting in and out of a Strat' would be like). But I'm walking (if not driving or sitting comfortably) so there's no reason not to. The garage should be a little clearer by the weekend so you're all welcome to have a nose about.

If anyone has any food/drink issues then we can probably already cope as I've been dairy (cows milk etc) and wheat intolerant for for the last 12 months, but let me know and we'll work something out.

I know what that's like Jeff.
'Hope you're over it soon.

Hi Jeff
Just met Peter today and his impressive looking rolling chassis. He's just informed of your garage day and although I live just 20 mins from you. Unfortunately, due to commitments I won't be able to make this one. But, i'll defo be up for the next one in this area.

Really no need to wait for a specific day to pop over if you're that close and fancy a cuppa. Just make sure we're about and you'd be welcome to pop in.

As for today, the forecast is good (though I'm not sure about the overcast clouds) and Mrs P has headed off to make sure we have bits and bobs required to prevent dehydration or starvation from setting in (I must go and tidy up the garage).

See you later.

My appreciation and thanks to both Peter and Mark for popping over today and Mark for bringing his Strat'. Always a pleasure have a chat about the cars and events (past and future), and remind myself of why I started the car in the first place.

I have to own up to having failed to even clean the car and not even noticing that 'er in doors had written "Barn Find" in the dust on the windscreen . That alone probably says all that needs saying about recent progress. I'd like to say (in my defense, your honor) that I had been planning to get back into the harness a couple of weeks ago but circumstances have precluded such activity.

Anyway, been a good morning with a small but select and enthusiastic crowed. Looking forward to the next "Southern" meet, location and time to be determined.

Jeff,

many thanks for the inaugural Southern garage day, let there be more. Tea/coffee, sandwiches and snacks were superb, please pass my thanks to Jane.

You haven't just built a car, you've built a double garage and workshop to go with it.. take your time with the IVA, but keep in mind Le Mans next year!

Thanks again to you both.

Jeff

Can I echo Mark's words - many thanks to yourself and Jane for your hospitality yesterday. Great to see your car - and it looks like there is relatively little left to do to get it on the road so keep pushing forward with it. (great workshop and garage facilities too!)

All the best

Peter

No .. too busy talking and drinking tea. Next time we'll line the cars up on the lawn .. but then it'll probably be raining :)
