Another one - there seems to be an increasing number of genuine cars appearing on the market!

Bit "chavvy"! Why would you need to write Stratos on the side like that?
Am I right in saying I don't think we would see that on a European restoration?
Nevertheless the engine bay looks nice.

I remember a few years ago there was a red one for sale with the same graphic up the side, can't remember where it was though. I'm sure I've got a photo somewhere.

Each to his own ! Why would you want to drive around with Alitalia or Chardonnet livery, or San Remo or RAC Rally stickers ? There are a lot of people - perhaps more in US - who wouldn't know what a Stratos is or what it looks looks like - so it's promoting some brand awareness !

This car has been Fully rebuilt almost as a modern new car ...and obtained as well FIA HTP for racing in historic rally !!!

john

How is that possible Frederic? It is not the same for a Ford Mustang!?!

Stratie.fr
18-01-2018, 19:28
All is possible John! I guess though they rebuilt the car with new parts in following the FIA recommandations for one original Stratos!
In the same purpose Romain Dumas won Historic Tour de Corse 2016 with one " new rebuilt " 911 RS Porsche and Erik Comas with his Zenith Stratos was defeated and a bit disappointed, He said the Porsche is a new car which had same times on stage as a modern rally car!
Morality if you would like to win in historic races you have to rebuild entirely the car with new parts, new engine new gearbox etc etc...
This Stratos with a new Lortec 24v engine is powered with more 300 BHP for 880kg...I think it's quarely a stratos..pheric rocket!

Hope to see them again on race soon!

I'm not at all religious, but I've been staring at those photos of the 24v Dino engine like they're the Holy Grail.

Considering the prices being paid, I'm not surprised there are more and more original cars coming up for sale. If I had one in the garage, I'd be selling for sure.

On similar subject, why is this valued at between £120k-£150k, when a group 4 Stratos is being valued at over £500k?

Makes the Ford look like a bargain to me!

That RS200 is lovely. I'd have that if I thought it would go for the lower end of the estimate. Unfortunately I expect it will got above the higher end. A mate had one, he might still have it, and I was pax a few times at a couple of track days. I'd forgotten how low-rent the interior was till I saw those pics. :)

It's all 'made up' anyway. Something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. I think the current 'flood' of cars coming to market is because of the prices being asked. How many sell? How many sell for the asking price?

The fiddling of production figures was that bad, nobody knows what cars are real original s these days. You can bet new but suitably patinated chassis are everywhere. A past member here intimated as such years ago. All that crap about continuation chassis being magically found after production ceased, well , if one believes that then one wants ones head testing.
Not sure if it was stratos times or group b but it was mentioned that the inspector s were outside counting cars being brought for them to view which were then driven back around the rear if the place and presented again. 'Oh, here's another red version for you Mr inspector'.

The most under rated Gp4 road version, has to be the Chevette HS.

That is nice, I had a couple of Manta GTE's back in my youth. That would look brilliant in the garage next to my Lister Bell, if only I had a spare 50k lying around!

He He - yes Mark I also remember those days . I was club rallying (well navigating actually) in a well-prepared Mini 998 and a Mark 1 Cortina - and then subsequently in a very wide tyred Mark 2 Cortina - great fun !

Me, in the borrowed white helmet:
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/9BsAAOSwzJ5XfRMe/s-l300.jpg

We normally did road rallies.
This was Lambton Lion Park stage rally in 1982.
The health and safety measures were taking the Lions away. At least that's what they told us....

Maybe that would have kept Tony Pond on the road on some of the RAC first day stages, Norm?

780K Euros??? No wonder it's still for sale...and if it's been modified so much and therefore unoriginal, why not build a LB or Hawk instead and save a fortune? :) Still, suppose if you don't ask...
