Guys,
we have 4 days to figure out if this engine will fit in a stratos engine bay.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/ferrari-f40-engine/

Custom transverse gearbox for starters...

The headers look incredibly wide and I'm worried the V8 may be too long.

Is there a chance in hell? I couldnt find any F40 engine dimension specs besides power ratings and such.

Some 348 Ferrari's had a transverse box but with a few mods to a lb rear cross member, all would be well. Unlikely to fit a hawk chassis without major work. I'd say go ahead and buy it.

Plans would be for a lister bell.

i wonder if Craig would be willing to do some custom engine mounts...

It needs to go north/south.
So LWB LB:

[QUOTE=MooglyMoog;41257]Plans would be for a lister bell.

I'd suggest a rework of the rear cradle, something like a 037, hang the wishbones etc off the engine and box. Run the driveshafts at a forward angle. All doable depending on Craig being a bit flexible. The lwb chassis would be sensible.

Transverse 308 engine fits the Hawk, of course and original Lancia.
Reputedly by Maglioli.

I cant find much info on an ECU or harness for an F40 which this engine would be missing.

does anyone on this forum have a high confidence that an aftermarket option would work or that an f40 ecu could be found at a reasonable (for ferrari) price?

4 hours to go on auction.

Plenty of aftermarket ECU's that would run this now & probably better than the old one that was fitted to the Ferrari in the first place.
Technology moves on, the F40 engine is quite basic by todays standards but according to the guy who mapped Neil's car "ITB & Boost = Involved" see HERE (https://www.facebook.com/pg/GGMotorsport/posts/?ref=page_internal)
There are guys that will build custom motorsport harnesses to suit but it all costs $$$$

MooglyMoog - what happened - I was looking forward to seeing the engine installation/build thread on stratosec !!!
Exciting auction though - I was watching from the sidelines

Yeah, my personal max was 35k. A few guys waited till the end and pushed it up to 88k (my entire budget for a stratos).

Sadly I hear its going to be a coffee table...

I was really hoping 037Fan was going to get it.

Interestingly the seller was Amir Rosenbaum, max land speed record holder guy.

For 88 grand - presumably USD - that's going to be one helluvan expensive coffee table !

Not many years back, there was a dtm Alfa 155 2.5 engine for sale, 20k. That would've been fantastic. Probably want rebuilding regular but that sound and 400+ bhp n/a?!

Here's an alternate idea - for a fraction the price you could have this:

https://bringatrailer.com/2018/07/03/grown-up-go-kart-2012-mclaren-mp4-12c-display-chassis/ (https://bringatrailer.com/2018/07/03/grown-up-go-kart-2012-mclaren-mp4-12c-display-chassis/#comments)

and ask Craig to whip up some bodywork to wrap around it - in his spare time of course :)
