Silverstone Classic - 2019, is this not a perfect opportunity to use some of the club funds to encourage members to come along to this show....................Ken and the team put a lot of effort in getting members and cars to this event and last year there was only 4 cars on the club stand, what has happened to the days when there used to be 20 cars.

Can I suggest for 2019 all members who take cars to the event the club pays for the entry with passenger. Any other members who go to the event with no car get 1/2 price tickets...............

Just a reminder on behalf of Ken who's not on-line at the moment.
The first ticket saver deadline runs out at the end of tomorrow (Monday 31st Dec.).
The SEC club can't survive at the Silverstone Classic with a turn out as low as it had in 2018 (3 to 4 cars only).
I gather that questions were asked by the organisers last summer, as to why numbers had dwindled so massively.

If you can't commit right now, make a note of the other two saver deadlines, but obviously they won't be as cheap as the deadline that runs out tomorrow.

Did two of those cars originally have split rims in the style of 1.9 205 GTI wheels?

Yes, Austin's red (Now Pauls white Gp4) and Geoff's (now Mark Cowlings Gp4) stradale's both started life with these Dimma wheels. I think both had Lancia twin cams but Geoff converted to Honda/Rover 2.7 V6 and Austin started an Alfa V6 conversion before selling the car.

A few questions about the coming weekend
How many have booked to stay on site?
Who is going Friday?
Is there an ideal place to pitch the tent or an area that could be agreed on to meet up a common camping area?
If you are only in your Stratos do you leave it in the display area at night or drive it back to the camping area?
Thanks Paul

Guy Mayers
21-07-2019, 22:23
I'm planning on arriving on Thursday about 3 - 4pm. I try to find a pitch in the Southern end of the campsite, on the left side as you drive in about 100 yards from the shower blocks, preferably by a fence but not too much of an issue. I'd recommend that you bring something to rope off the "parking space" next to your tent otherwise someone will nick it to pitch theirs!
I've never left the car on the stand overnight, always bring it back to the campsite. It's somewhere to lock valuables up overnight or when you're going back into Silverstone for the music/entertainment.
Cheers

Hi Paul

In answer to your questions, i and many club members leave their cars on site with no problems
If turn to the first page and look at whos going you will see whos going on Friday
There is a shuttle that gos around the camp site and stops at the circuit gate where you can hop the circuit bus

So that's off the roundabout at the very bottom (south) end of the dual carriageway road that runs past the circuit.
As you peel off the roundabout, the public car parks will go left (onto the loose surface), and the car clubs will go right onto the tarmac perimeter road, at the back of the club corner outer grandstands.
You'll see the 'sticky up bit' of the Silverstone Wing from the roundabout.

I have unfortunately made the hard decision not to take the car to Silverstone this weekend on a trailer...............I apologise to all that I stated it would be there...........:(:(:(

Over the last months I have made excellent progress on the build. I have been helped by John Hinchliffe who has come down on several weekends and also the team at LB Specialist Cars, Craig and Lydia who have helped with numerous items. Not enough effort on my side at the beginning of the year and then tried to complete everything in the last couple of months.......................

I will still be there myself over the weekend as it is a great event..................

Have a great weekend everyone! Looks like the weather is going to be good to you?!

I did have a great weekend John, thanks.
The weather was hot on Friday, very wet on Saturday morning, and then (would you believe it?) fairly cold from then on.

Many thanks to Ken for putting the SEC stand together as ever, including the much needed 'event shelter'.
I'll put some photos on later, when I get organised.

I came back home from Silverstone on Sunday evening, to find the power had been off since Sat. morning, and has only just been back on at lunchtime today (Tues.).
I hardly ever go away, and it picks that one time to go wrong!?

Had a great day on Saturday despite the morning rain. Very heavy when we left home but was much lighter at Silverstone.
A wet track always make for good spectating.
Thanks to Ken/family and Paul (and any others) for putting up the much needed shelter/wind break.
Good turn out of cars on Saturday, so well done to everybody for braving the weather. And for some strange reason my car didn't fill up with water during the day.... usually does.
