Next summer will be here before we know it..

The Hotel we have selected for the 2020 tour is Gisborough Hall ( the ancestral pile of Lord Gisborough ). It sits just on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors but is actually in Cleveland!

A block of rooms in the Woodland Wing for Friday and Saturday nights has been reserved for us and we have our own private car park. The rate for dinner bed and breakfast is £150 per room per night, based on two sharing a Classic Kingsize Bedroom. This can be configured as a twin if required.

To confirm your booking telephone 01287 611500 and quote JOWSEY, a £50 deposit per room will be required at the time of booking.

Pat and I have already booked ours and are looking forward to a weekend of fun, fabulous scenery and great driving.

Anybody wanting to join us just for the drive on Saturday is very welcome.

We have put in an order to the weather gods for a dry weekend!!!!!

...and who knows, this time we might even stick to the route if I can get Herself to comprehend the intricacies of written instructions... oh look, a flying pig :)

Hey Robin, HNY yerself :)

Not sure of the Banana on-the-road date. There's not a great deal left to do to it (copyright Lydia White 2019), but you know how busy LB are, so it's all a bit fluid. Having said that, yeah, it'd be great to take it on the trip, but you might well be disappointed by my Stratos self-extraction abilities (or lack thereof) as I'm specifying the new, jointly-Norm-and-LB-designed personal shoehorn (we were gonna call it a carhorn, but somebody'd already thought of that). However, regardless of the success or otherwise of this wondrous accessory, you're more than welcome to wait on me hand and foot for the duration of the event :)

John, you really should come along, not least cos it'd be good to give everybody someone else to laugh at and take some of the pressure off me. :-P

It was a dark wet afternoon in Yorkshire, so Pat and I headed over to Gisborough Hall Hotel for coffee.
We were greeted by roaring fires comfy sofas and friendly helpful staff. A real oasis !.

The Yorkshire run in June will be upon us before we know it. If you have not already done so, just a reminder to call reception on 01287 611500 to reserve your room and pay your deposit to secure your booking.

Hotels are currently closed due to the dreaded pandemic up until July at the earliest. I have been in touch with Gisborough Hall Hotel regarding alternative dates for our bookings. There are two options available for the tour, move our weekend to the end of September or early to mid October 2020. The only fear I have here is there could be a second spike of infection and lockdown returns.

The second option is to forget about this year and move the tour into June 2021. The price will remain the same.

I should be pleased to hear from everyone who has booked what their preferred option would be ?

Well there's a bit of synchronicity - was only thinking about this yesterday and thinking it most likely wouldn't be happening in June. I've also been giving the Northern Run some thought too, with similar conclusions/alternatives to those just mentioned by David. So for what it's worth, here are my thoughts...

Moving the run to September or October is fine in principle, although you have to also consider the weather and the shortening days. September's OK - goes dark about half 7 in the middle of the month - but October can be a bit tricky as it can get very autumnal and it's then dark at half 6. Doesn't mean we can't still have a fun time, just that it's not at all summery. I personally don't have a preference, so I'll go with the majority verdict, and if it ends up being next year, so be it.

As for the Northern Run in August (and I'll be posting this on that thread too), I'm currently leaving it alone till it becomes clearer as to what the virus/lockdown scenario is. Anything could happen in the next 3 months, but my Plan B is to move it to September 12th (assuming the hotel has free rooms - that particular date is one where the Lindisfarne tide times are in our favour). I'm not contemplating moving it to October as I think it's getting a bit too late in the year, and the route is better appreciated in the summer months. But for now, it stays as is, along with the crossing of many fingers :)

I just moved my Fulvia weekend in East Anglia from the end of September 2020 to 24-26 September 2021. This is still provisional. The hotel I am using is currently closed (it is small with only 23 rooms and only employee working is the manager) and they do not know when they can entertain groups (buffets are out....). Anyway they were happy to do this.

Due to the current never ending saga of the Coronavirus, I have agreed with the Hotel to transfer our block reservations to the 4th & 5th June 2021. Hopefully by then everything will be back to normal. I decided not to take the chance on September this year as the only date offer by the Hotel was the 25 September.

This date would be too close to Norm’s drive if he has to move to the weekend of 12 September.

Probably a good move.
You never know, you might get another entry or two by then.
What do you say Norm?

Normb666
18-05-2020, 11:13
It's all up in the air at the mo, John. I'm still hoping we'll be able to do the Northern run in August, as long as restrictions get lifted appropriately. It's looking like caffs and restaurants could be open by then, but dunno about hotels...altho if you think about it, everyone's in separate rooms, aren't they? (unless there's partner-swapping, obviously ;) )
Then again, it also depends on people acting sensibly, and others not abusing their powers - there was a news item about a group of supercar owners being turned away from the Lake District on Saturday, and escorted to the motorway. Would someone explain to me what legal basis the police used to do that?? I thought people were now free to travel unlimited distances for leisure?? So what if you had 10 cars travelling on the roads there, so long as the occupants didn't get out and mingle with the locals close up?? I can feel another Chairman's Rant coming on....!

So even if we're theoretically OK to go, there's the attitude of the locals to consider...let's see how it's looking in early July.

David J

By the look of the weather map this weekend ( p*ssing down on Saturday) the tour would have been a washout, a bit like Norm’s last year. Roll on June 2021.

In these dark, virus ridden times, we all need something to look forward to and the 2021 Yorkshire Moors and Wolds Tour sprang to mind! Gisborough Hall Hotel confirmed that 10 rooms have already been booked and that another five are available in addition should anyone else wish to join us on the weekend of 4th-6th June. See original post for contact details. The glorious weekend in Tynemouth seems such a long time ago..

I have been in contact with Gisborough Hall Hotel and everything is good to go in June barring any change in the current restrictions.

10 rooms have been booked so far. However, they still have some availability left. Better get in quick if you fancy a 150 mile drive through the glorious scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors and Wolds and a weekend of fun and merriment. According to the media Hotels are booking up fast.

The Drive is nearly upon us, the count down has started.

Pat and I are calling into the Hotel next Monday to run through the weekends arrangements.

In the mean time I have attached the route details in two different formats turn by turn route description and tulip type road books in A5 and A4 size. A big thank you to Mark Eaton for configuring these. I have tried to download the gpx file (without success) Could someone possibly come to my rescue on this one.

Apparently this file will enable you to download the tulip road books on to some SAT NAV systems but not all.

Finally a quick reminder for your menu choices (see my previous post) for Friday and Saturday nights. Please PM me with your choices.

Thanks for the route instructions - got them all and they open fine. Good though they are, I fear they'll be as much use as a bog roll (actually, maybe less) to Leah, so I may well revert to Option 5, - follow someone else :)

Don't think you'll be able to add a GPX file to this thread. The site only accepts certain file types, and that's not one of 'em... you'd have to email it out as an attachment, if you had everyone's email addy - think that's what I ended up doing last year.

See ya at Phil's on Saturday!

A little birdy phoned me last night to pass a message on from David J, reminding me to submit my meal choices. The Little Bird didn't tell me that he'd dressed up for the day so he could match his car... evidence pic included below. Personally I think he'd have suited blue tights...

Meal choices:

Friday
-Soup of the day, Chicken and Chorizo terrine
-Chicken Ballotine, Rump steak (medium)
-Crème brulee, cheese and biscuits

Saturday

-Prawn cocktail, soup of the day
-Rump steak (medium), Mediterranean veg and olive Strudel
-Dark chocolate and orange tart, sticky toffee pudding

Looking forward to this very much - hoping to be able to prise the Strat out of the workshop this week and make sure all's well - it's currently blocked in by a part built, gearbox-less Healey, so some shuffling around will be required!

Please could everyone book into the reception on arrival after which you can drive your car round to the car park which is next to the Woodland Wing where all the rooms are booked.

Anyone requiring fuel, this is available by turning right out of the Hotel heading for Guisborough the garage is about a mile away. Go straight on at the two sets of traffic lights you pass Aldi and Sainsbury’s to your left. Look out for the Lidl supermarket sign. The petrol station is just before Lidl on the left.

I ought to say, I did get more than just the doggy bag.
I never expected to end up at the Hotel today, but what a lovely venue David and Pat found for the run. 'Too good for the likes of us?

I was supposed to be in the passenger seat of a SAAB 96 for the weekend, but rocker shaft problems put paid to that.
Otherwise I'd have been doing the run, and not just meeting up at the morning coffee venue.

Normb666

Too good for us??? Well yeah, of course it was, but then, anywhere with a room you can sleep in is probably too good for us :) :)

Got back home mid-afternoon today after an ace weekend, and a great route from David and Pat. Amazingly we even managed to follow it as far as the lunch stop at Sledmere due to a herculean effort at reading the tulips by Leah, and only wrong-slotted a couple of times....one of which was the Yorkshire Lavender coffee stop, hence not being on Chris' photos! After the lunch/early-p.m. stop we decided to head back to the hotel as Herself was developing a headache and I didn't want it spreading to me by insisting we stay on track, but we did the Blakey Ridge road and had a fun drive "making progress" amongst the grockles.

Lots of laughs and a good time had by all - well, except for Phil and Helen, who had to retire early due to gearbox troubles. In true Top Gear style most peeps just blithely passed them by at the side of the road, thinking they'd stopped for a breather....anyway, as I said later, men of a certain age often have problems losing their drive ;) Sorry Phil!!

Big thanks to Pat and David for organising, and also to all who came along, and hopefully there'll be some more pix soon from those blessed with cameras who can actually take decent shots. 4 Strats took part - the ListerBells of Richard, Dave and Carol & Robin, and of course David's Allora.

Next club gig will be Silverstone, so keep an eye on the forum thread for that one, and then in early August it'll be the Northern Run up to Kielder and beyond. And yes, the hotel will be suitably cheesy :)

Tour of Yorkshire 2021 (revisited in 2023)
On David and Pat Jowsey’s 2021 Tour of Yorkshire Helen and I managed to break down in our Mitsushitty Outlander (no Strato’s in my garage at this time) so we always vowed to come back and do it at some point in the future.
So about 3 weeks ago we booked the Gisborough Hall Hotel and subsequently this weekend ran through the route in a more reliable car.
We arrived on Friday afternoon and had tea sandwiches on the veranda which was very good. Had a great breakfast on Saturday morning then off on the Tour.
The route at the end on our trip meter was some 205 miles through the North Yorkshire Moors, which was a long day in the saddle. The roads that David and Pat had chosen were spectacular to say the least. We found the point at which we broke down in the Mitsushitty and it was about 75 minutes into the tour, so to reach this point was some sort of milestone for us. The route was interesting and varied and took us just over 6 hours including stops.
On the Saturday evening David and Pat joined us for dinner which really made the weekend for us, we had a great meal and had great conversation.
The Gisborough Hall hotel was excellent both the food and the rooms.
So thanks to David and Pat Jowsey for organising the 2021 Tour of Yorkshire !

Some of us got wind of your 2nd go round, and we did consider following slightly behind to see if you broke down again, at which point we'd have driven past again giving you a cheery wave. Kinda Dave-ja vu...but in the end we couldn't be arsed.

Glad you finally made it though. Turning up at the hotel at the end probably elicited a response similar to the Titanic finally making it to New York, many years late ;)
