Hi Guys

spotted this on ebay Italy for sale says it is original . What do you think condition wise and price wise should I buy. Take a close look at the center of the wheel where the bolts are it seems to have been butchered a little also check out the depth of the boss. Is it Stratos or just early Fulvia ?.

I have no connection to the seller.

stay safe everyone.

Hi Kenny,

It's an original Stradale Ferrero, but horribly butchered to fit a larger horn button.
This happens a lot with original Stradale steering wheels, because of the very small and unique 41mm horn button hole.
That's by far the most ham fisted job I've seen yet of enlarging the horn button hole.
I would think £150 to £200 is plenty, given the damage?
The shipping situation can't be good at this time.

Hi Kenny,
Are you not just better off with one of Gerry's reproduction wheels?
Not sure on the price but comparatively they must be better value?

My thoughts exactly!
Should I have asked what the rate of commission was before I posted that?

That's proof that an angle grinder can't do every job in the workshop.

just out of interest, what's the PCD on the replica wheels (75mm?) and if I wanted to get one onto my Alfa steering column, any thoughts on best way to do it - I currently have a Momo adapter for a Sparco 70mm PCD wheel. Eg are there 75mm available anywhere or on my own to make something up (eg tap new set of holes into the Momo adapter).

Other question - does anyone know what the dish depth measurement is on these wheels?

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul, PCD on the wheel I have is 75mm, I've got it mounted to a 1970's Fiat 124 Spider boss. The original may have been 74mm?

Placing a flat edge across the face of the wheel the depth to the face of the centre of the wheel is 47mm. The rim is 30/31mm which.

What's your donor car? 164?

And just received an offer of €400 for the butchered wheel as I looked at it on eBay.... Wouldn't be tempted at €100!

Thanks Guy and yes - 164 column, so I've got a Momo collapsible adapter with 70mm PCD.

The original wheels (and the Hawk replicas to date) are 75mm pcd.
However, I understand that the Hawk replica wheels will be 74mm pcd. from now on.
74mm pcd is the standard 'Personal and Nardi' pcd, so it's much more common, not too different visually to 75mm, and if you want a period cast hub, they're fairly easy to find.

75mm is do-able with an adapter though, because Ford RS steering wheels share the same and very rare 75mm pcd as Ferrero.
Because of this, Bella Volante sell an adapter to fit Ford RS 75mm pcd steering wheels to both 70mm MOMO and 74mm Nardi/Personal hubs. See here:

Autobianchi A112 cars have exactly the same splines and horn button contact as a Fiat X1/9.
'Personal' 74mm pcd steering wheel hubs were a common and (I think) standard fitment on some A112s. Here is one listed on Italian ebay at the moment:

I don't know what delivery times are like from Italy at the moment?

For the dish, I've got 51mm (2") from the front of the outer rim to the mounting face on a 4 spoke Ferrero.

Autobianchi A112 cars have exactly the same splines and horn button contact as a Fiat X1/9.

I realise it was an Alfa column fit that was needed in this case, but I'm sure 74mm makes things much easier, whatever the column type?

in case you couldn't tell, when I get an idea, I quickly find myself obsessing on the details. I've a wheel reserved with Gerry, so for the hub, I could modify the collapsible one I have for the new PCD or go with one of the above options or an adapter. Given a choice I'd prefer something like the Fiat hub because it's shorter than the collapsible Momo one which will compensate for the deeper dish of the replica wheel (I don't want it any closer to me), so does anyone know if the Alfa 164 column dia and spline count matches the Fiat or Autobianchi?
Not a big deal either way, just looking for the neatest solution

Thanks all and stay safe

Paul

It looks like you need something that fits a 164/33/75/90 on a Nardi 74mm pcd Paul?

Please check though, I've never had a column off one of these cars. The splines look finer for certain.
