I think you're right Paul.
A secondhand Stratos replica project is a rare thing these days. Long waiting lists for new kits, and the price of new kits being out of reach for some people should help it sell?

I think it'll run to the end - there seem to be a lot of people interested and bidding so far.

Obviously it's going to need a complete strip down and rebuild. I'd be amazed if the engine was salvageable, the supercharger rotor are probably badly corroded by now if it's stood outside for years. I'd recommend taking it off first to check front and back before attempting to turn it. Tolerances are tight and moving the rotors could cause serious damage. If it looks okay get it to a specialist for a strip and rebuild.

I'd also be a little concerned about the state of the chassis at the back, there's surface corrosion on the engine cage and, unless it was waxoyled I'd be checking the state of the spine, upper rear chassis rails and front lower wishbone mounts. Hopefully the suspension isn't seized as removal of the front upper wishbone can be probelmatic.

Obviously needs a screen and also paint and wiring. Probably a V6 too. All rubber pipes are probably perished and the brakes beyond saving?

On the plus side being registered it won't need to go through IVA. Presumably all the parts are there and the waiting list is less than a week?

Value? I'd guess in the £8-£10k range but the market is going to decide that.

As on the other thread - I thought 8-10K would be a bit on the light side - £9600 a few hours on - My guess is that it will go quiet at about £12K but has the potential to go to 15-17 at the end of the auction.

There were quite a few pre SVA Q plate cars.
Do you think most of those would be described as the kit name, or at least, whatever the owner chose as a make and model name?

Seems to be a legit car originally registered at the time 1988 as what it would have been - Transformer - I have had plenty of old kits from similar periods all correctly registered using the old built up report process on the V627 form. The forms were usually included as part of the build manual with an example of how to fill it in.

That was the case with the Allora I acquired from John Hanlon. Correctly described on a Q plate at the time of build so as others have found it was done right at least some of the time.

Lets hope whoever wins it does not bin the Lampredi, vx or not hopefully the crank will be ok and they are pretty much all worth saving.

Seller also has a rebuilt twink for sale. He's been advised not to turn the supercharger until it's been stripped off and inspected. If it's okay it's sale will probably finance a V6 motor and box. Fortunately he's accepted that advice so the motor might be salvageable.

Indeed John - that one was unregistered - It did have an Alfa V6 and some nice parts but it gave a good indication about how healthy the market was/is for projects.

As I already had a fair handle on the values and worth of these things - selling is something I do consider from time to time as I have one too may projects on the go at present - If someone turned up with £20K to take mine off my hands there would be some days that I would be hard pressed to say no.

Personally I'd turn it around and push it back into the weeds, but that's just my opinion cos it'd be just too much effort and money for me. What do we think it'd cost to do a decent job on it - £20K? £25K? More? I'd rather wait and spend that £45K (plus a bit) on something already running that I could use now, with maybe a little fettling so I could fit in, but that's just me. It's plainly worth the money to someone. Can't see it ever being worth £100K unless you spent mega-money on it, but hey... moral of the story is that if you've got a Strat rep, you're sitting on a hill of dosh :)

I see its value in two ways.
a) it's already registered with a decent age on it, which no doubt appeals to overseas buyers,
b) as a competitively priced basis for a build when you weigh up what kits cost now, even when you can get them.
I certainly wouldn't consider spending £100k on any car I didnt, or couldn't know every minute detail of, especially one based on a chassis that's lived in a garden for a considerable period.
That's not to say I dont believe that kind of figure cant be attained for a top spec professionally built replica.

The condition of the kit that the ID/reg. is attached to, is neither here not there.

By contrast the Lancia Twink that was also for sale sold for £270 which was an utter steal - The port work shown in the picture was of a really high standard and I suspect a substantial amount of work had gone into that engine - The spare parts as well went for giveaway numbers. £1000 for the split rim Coffins was a good price.

It would be nice is the seller dropped back in and notified where the car is destined but I expect that sale being done and dusted its onto other things.

I gave a Lancia twin-cam away a coupla years ago...who'd have thought they'd be worth such good money now? Not that I'm complaining, I was given it for free as well, but 30 years ago! And it's gone to a good home, which is nice to know.
