Hi All
Had my Alfa 3.0L engine stripped after the engine went bang, when the throttle potentiometer packed up and the ECU over fuelled it!
After that engine got a bad habit and started to smoke.
The engine was modified to 240HP which is not bad for a 12v.
It has now been stripped and the main reason for the smoking is that the cylinder liners are now in bad condition.

The reason for the post is that i cannot find any liners for the engine! Even 24v liners that will also fit.

Same company as the ones I listed Griff! Hope you're sorted out soon Ian. Might another donor car end up being cheaper?

As you know the cars at Autolusso Bournemouth. Laurence there is having problems getting parts, ill give him the good findings you found Guy on Monday when he gets back from his holiday. I would like to keen the current engine as its been modified as well as the electrics and ECU
Next problem may be getting a good water pump with the correct size impeller!
Thanks again all you hero’s.

I bought some here for my 24v 3.0 last year, http://www.tecnotrasmissioni.com/index-EN.asp

Did you source any Ian? I notice a 3.0V6 24V going through an auction on 14/11 - unfortunately a sportronic but may be a possible donor?

Thanks Guy
Laurance and i like the look of the liners and piston sets from Westwood's. He is checking the pistons i have for getting the right compression ratio.
In the end the engine will have an almost full overhaul.
Going down the 166 route is not on the cards as most engines like the one you just posted have over 130 thousand miles on the clock, and will require and overhaul soon.
As for parts, the the 12v and 24v are about the same availability.
The other good reason for sticking with my 12v is the I don’t have to re wire the car again and another exhaust system for the car.
Don’t forget getting the car off the isle cost over £340 on i transporter.
Lastly i think the 12v makes a better road car with more linear and lower down torque.
I hope you all on the big island are coping well with the new lockdown especially Guy with the army doing mass swabbing!

Big Island... not heard it called that before Ian! I'm just outside Liverpool in Sefton so not allowed in for the mass testing. Apart from 3 days in the office and one shop a week we're staying indoors. Trying to stay safe and well.

Sounds like your liners are sorted then? Hope the rebuild goes to plan & budget!

I ran into the same issue... as I’ve been designing and manufacturing performance parts before I’m actually thinking of producing them... since they’re so damn hard to find (would probably make forged pistons and rods too then)

I’m however running 24V engine

Well the cars is up and running on the big Island (England) Engine all sorted and making good power. Had to wait 8 weeks for the rolling road near Autolusso Bournemouth.
They found out that the last rolling road setup at Northampton was far to rich at the Bottem end causing fuel wash on the pistons and contamination of the oil.
I hate living on the Isle of Wight sometimes as the 2 minute suggestion can save the back end of your car!
All a can say is the the new motor is a hot rod!

As i built the car 33 years a go has anyone got any ideas what the number plate light is from!
It is definitely plastic, possibly from a Ford transit or a DAF

Hi Ian - Gerry sells a moulding that's the same as original and uses the lenses and bulb holders from a Mk2 Ford Escort but it's fiddly to make it all fit and you end up with thin fiberglass/perspex. Your's isn't one of those!

If my memory is right one of the options I looked at back in the day was from a DAF 33. It's a bit chunkier than the Stratos one and the back of it was slightly hollowed out? Looks like yours I think but I can't find a picture of one on the web yet! Let alone one for sale anywhere!

You're right Guy.
It's a Volvo part (who took on DAF's cars) by the looks (part number 3269813):

The outer housing shows the hollowed out section I mentioned. Does that look like the back of yours Ian? You'll have to scroll through the gallery pics.

I've been looking for an hour or so and can't find any housings anywhere. Sorry but I think you might have to consider alternatives?

You'd need 2 of these to do the one Gerry supplies

Thanks for the Hella assemble, very similar.
Ive tracked down a Volvo 66 assembly in Holland, from DAFhobby.
Also a new reversing lens from Italy.
The car is now at the rolling road garage to get the rear of the car repainted.
Another wait! At least the car will be ready for May, as promised, as I forgot to say the year!
