The photo shows what most of you will recognise as a piece of Conduit with a length of cable coming out of it.

Thirty odd years ago, I was laying a concrete slab and thought it would be a good idea to install a conduit under it to the wall, some 25ft long with a few 90" bends, because I thought that my dear wife would probably suggest and ask for Christmas lights to be displayed on the wall and shrubs by it, and a permanent waterproof supply would be a good idea.

Well, in the true spirit of ‘You cannot rush these things, they need to be considered’ I have been installing Christmas lights for most of that time powered by a rather precarious extension lead, which needed even more precarious installation each year, I have finally got round to installing the Cable for the original intention last Saturday, with the aid of a draw cord installed with the help of a Vacuum cleaner, and Carol pulling heartedly while I threaded it through.

When the cable was through, she casually asked when I had put the Conduit in, and said about 33 years ago as I was forward planning.

I can assure you the rest of the day was not ”Casual” I don’t think my planning skills are appreciated!!!!

Why struggle when you can have it hard!!!

This post is a gift for Norm's jokes.

It contains the words, vacuum and pulling and the terms 'threading through' and 'have it hard'

It's practically a script for a Carry On film!

Robin a man of your years and experience should know never to admit to anything in front of the Mrs!
Nevertheless, congrats on getting it done.

I think the vacuum cleaner's role deserves some explanation.

Clearly a bit of light relief inbetween tugging on that big stiff wire.......

I tied a bit of fluff on the end of the cord, put it in the pipe and gave the end a suck with the Vacuum. As the expression goes ‘it went through like a rat up an entry’.

Great bit of problem solving!

Love it. Made me smile and rather than my forward planning reminded me of all the jobs I’ve only just finished after c2 decades during lockdown. Merry Xmas to all
