View Full Version : September day out

I was thinking about organising a Derbyshire day out in September. The possible dates are Saturday 11th or 18th or 25th. The venue could either be my house in Buxton (same as the previous garage days) or at the Peak Rail heritage railway site in Rowsley. This is half way between Matlock and Bakewell. At Rowsley you could book a steam train ride to Matlock and back or just avail yourself of the cafe and watch the trains. There is a large carpark but if numbers were higher then there is a picnic area available where we can all park .
Let me know what you think.

I think "yes" :) Either venue is fine by me! Steam trains are always nice but Ruth's lemon cake at yours....mmmmm.....

Brilliant idea, count me in. Peak Rail is a great location with plenty of space & I know they would be grateful for any support via their tea/cake/coffee outlets!
Super easy to find on the A6 .

I would be interested if you can avoid 25th as that's the Rally day at Castlecombe

The September day out has had to change to a garage day in Buxton, Derbyshire. Depending upon availability of you all, there are a few dates which could be possible so let me know which suits. Saturday 11th or 18th September or 2nd or 9th October.
For those of you who have not been before there is plenty of parking.

I can't do 18th Sept or 2nd Oct, but if the Do happens on one of those dates, I'm sure you'll manage without me ;)

Hi Gordon, depending upon which date you choose I may be within striking distance from the boat again, but could come on any date by car anyway.

Too far away for me and no car yet but we spent a great weekend in Buxton and the surrounding area earlier this year. What a great place to live.

Gordon, just a quick thank you for putting on your garage day in lovely Buxton. Had a great, but brief, time chatting to most folk there. Just sorry that Henry (dog) did not have my desire to stay longer. Coffee and bacon rolls were a great start to the day too!
Cheers!

Ade good to see you again and echo your thanks to Gordon for another splendid meet up.
Good to finally meet Tim and Steve too and hear more about their projects.
I got answers to a few questions which have been going round in my head too, plus a little more fired with enthusiasm for my own projects.
Secondary function for the day of swap meet also went well! Thanks again CJ.
Sorry to hear about Andrea's mum Guy. I remember meeting her that time I cycled over to your place. It's certainly not been the best of years so far. Hope it picks up for you soon.
Thanks again Gordon!

I concur, great day at Gordon's, and Big Ta to him for putting the thing on. Unfortunately I didn't get to chat with everyone - maybe we can arrange time slots to talk to each other next time, or make bookings? Or maybe not....

Good to see everyone, and who knows, there might be a few more Strats next time? - although four ain't bad really....

Guy, sorry to hear of your Mum-in-law. Life can suck big time. :(

Patience, patience, they will be coming, difficult to post from a phone on the move.!!!!

Thanks Gordon, back home now, via a big shop at the M & S food store in Stone, and as one shopper said, not the sort of car you expected to see on an M & S car park on a Saturday afternoon. Thank goodness for a large boot, nearly filled it!

And for all those of you who were still there when we left, I had the passenger seat until Stone and had I had control of the steering wheel, we may have passed M & S by!!

Robin & Carol.

Many thanks Gordon for putting on the day, really enjoyed catching up with everyone. We even had a couple of locals drop in to admire the cars after spotting them in the drive.

Thanks all for coming today. The weather was good which makes a change in Buxton. When everyone started to arrive it did look like a parts swop meet. Put end September / early October in your diary for next year, we should have a few more cars on the road.

Looks like it was a great day - well done Gordon.

Could I please have a copy of your second photo for the Calendar? (cutlerpj@aol.com) - the one with the dubious characters stood at the Gate .

Many thanks

Thanks again Gordon, excellent day & very enjoyable drive over the hill & back, outstanding quality of Stratos as ever, maybe a couple more next year?

Please order the correct weather again!

Good luck sticking the engine in Ade, my wife & I fitted our engine during school time lunch break, 45 min max, strap it up tight, give it a wiggle and done! (even free joke in there for Norm)

Take care out there all.:)
