Hi All,

To introduce myself, my name is Nik, based in the south of England, middle age automotive design engineer. I was drawn to the forum few years ago by a former colleague of mine whose Stratos build is in a fairly advanced state of progress, while for me that is my first post here. I have seen few threads not directly related to Stratos builds, and in the absence of a dedicated forum, I hope it is not going to be too offensive if I start an 037 one, though it will be more of a statement of intent currently rather than actual physical build - another dreamer hoping to dip in the vast pool of knowledge on this forum.

Regards,
Nik

I assume you're aware of the Carteroni replicas in New Zealand plus you've heard of Mick Covill here in the UK? I suspect the hardest parts of building an 037 replica are sourcing a usable Montecarlo Spider chassis, the Volumex power unit (even if it is a smaller one than fitted to the 037?) and financing it all! Please feel free to start a thread on here for it as we like to follow these, you never know who has parts stashed away or suggestions along the way!

Pim may even pop along shortly, he's part way through an 037 build!

And welcome to the club website! We're a friendly bunch!
Guy

Thanks Guy, very much appreciated. Yes, aware of both Carteroni's and Mick Covill's projects, and actually so impressed with what they are doing. My project is 037 related but with a difference, I really need to start the thread going - as I mentioned, it is more dreaming for now, but probably the best time to get advice here on all the various aspects.
Cheers,
Nik

Intriguing! Please tell me you're doing the Group5 Turbo car Nik!

No, it is not Guy, and to be fair, it might be a bit of a let down come to think of it now.

Group 4 Monte rally car?

Group 4 Monte rally car?

I didn't know the 037 had a Group 4 version considering it was the first proper Group B rally car.

I tried to start a new thread on my project, but I guess it will take some time before that gets approved and posted on the forum.

Hi Nik, I did read your new thread on your 037 adventures but hadn't realised it need approval! All sorted now and people will be able to see it. Good luck with the car!

No, you said "related", so it was the nearest thing I could think of.
There was such a thing. Stig Blomqvist won the 1979 Janner Rally in one.

I'll stop guessing.

Thank you Norm, genuinely appreciated, I can see it now in there.

Ah, I see, the Beta Montecarlo, true, that one was homologated during the groups 1-4 era, thanks Chris. My brain seems to be immersed in the 037 subject only and I guess I am a bit blinkered currently :)

Since this isn't going to be an exact replica, you could put an Integrale engine and 4WD system in. Some of these are in a sorry state nowadays, just awaiting a new role!

Can you? wouldn't that result in 5 reverse gears? Or a rather large bonnet bulge?

If that's the case, install a periscope and pretend you're Captain Scarlet in a Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle. :)
