'Sorry for the indirect subject, but does anyone know where I can find the answer to this?:

I need to find someone who knows for certain, what number is needed for (in this case, receiving a parcel from Italy) the upper box on this form (see attached photo).
I'm really stumped on this one.

Thank you for any help/advice.

'Forgot to say, it's the seller that's asking for the info., who is a stranger.

The only "National ID" I can think of is your National Insurance number, but why they'd need that is a mystery.

Alternative would be to get it sent to a friend who has a company and bypass the box that way...oh, and tell him he's spelled "Christopher" wrong :)

Mr. Christopher,

Thank you for writing to us. Please contact the trader to get more details about it. We can't provide any advise on it as National ID number is not required for any imports.

Here in Italy it's quite usual to be asked for your codice fiscale, which is used commonly as an ID check. The translation would be your NI number.

Normally your surname is entered before Christian name, hence Mr Christopher.

The "Mr Christopher" bit was from UK HMRC, but maybe a certain division?
I have noticed that most EU buyers postal addresses have the surname first.

It's already been sent with no number Peter.
HMRC say no IN number needed for imports.
I didn't have time to tell the seller what HMRC said before he'd decided to send it with no number.
I'll see what happens.
