Just seen Jonny Smith's latest video features LB Stratos.
https://youtu.be/eocNMVJQzuo

Jonny is doing good work on his channel and well worth a view.

If you are already a fan of Jonny you probably also listen to the podcasts he does with Richard "Sniff Petrol" Porter - comedy gold every week!

This is worth watching to the very end...

I've met Kevin, had a brew/ wander around his gaff & been in the LB. He was even kind (or mad) enough to let me drive it. He's a v decent bloke.

Cheers,
Hedge

Jonny sent me a few emails a while ago.
He wanted to buy my spare Honda V6 (Rover 827) engine to put in his Allegro.

What a great 35 mins of entertainment and what a massive bit of praise for the LB STR in that company.
That was cool.

I think Jonny's next video will be his drive in the LB.
Hopefully he will chat about it in next weeks "Smith & Sniff" podcast too.
I want to hear what Mr "car trivia" Porter knows about the Stratos - he seems to have a funny story about every car.

Come to think of it he might have mentioned it in this week's podcast, I only got halfway through during my lunchtime walk.

Yes a great YouTube moment or several moments. A lovely stable of cars, but a Muria and a Stratos side by side - heaven!
The LB Stratos is the one Nick Allen (Red5) built and sold back in 2019 if I'm not mistaken. A lovely car.

Yep, that's Nick's car. I heard they gut that bought it had an impressive car collection and indeed he does.

Very high praise though, out of all his cars the LB is the top one!!!!

I wonder if the guy selling the ebay Stratos is watching this? Get ready for the price to go up ;)

What struck me most was that a bloke that could clearly afford to have a Lancia Strato’s chose to have an LB STR, and a bloke with some pretty impressive cars in his collection. Loved the way he described it too, bang on IMO.

A well deserved endorsement I think.

Why does he think a real Stratos is trickier to drive than a replica?
He's talked himself out of the perceived shortcomings of a real Stratos, but is ready to forgive a Miura for possibly setting itself on fire at any given moment.

Have to assume he’s driven at least a few and didn’t like them I’d think. Given his collection, I can’t imagine his first port of call for anything that took his fancy would have been a replica.

Fantastic compliment to LB in the light of what's in those garages.
And to the standard of build too.
There are probably better cars out there or about to be now too?
I do wonder if the real Stratos ever deserved the reputation it had?
Sure it was a different concept and designed to be so, but might it not be the case that because of its rarity no-one really had that much experience with them, and perhaps cars set up for professional drivers got the better of lesser testers?

I should clarify, given how these topics have a habit of ‘expanding’, I’m not trying to imply that one is better than the other in any absolute fashion. They are different things.

A person can prefer one or the other and both are right, given it's a personal choice.

If people on here aren't moved by old Italian (rally) cars, I'm on the wrong forum.

i have two questions.

1. When is he joining the SEC?
2. When is he doing a Phil Dolby style garage day.

I'll bring the biccies.

Just wow.

How do you delete a duplicated post.....?

john

Amen to that ( both) Chris's.
It illustrates quite well, that the search for the ultimate replica ( see other threads...) can be right for some but not for others.
Personal choice.
But this guy could have bought an actual original car. And chose not to.

I suppose he can live with the Miura's inflammatory tendencies because he's installed a special system to combat them. An inbuilt handling flaw (or advantage - depends if your name is Munari or Waldegaard or not) is probably more difficult to overcome. I've not enough experience of original cars so I don't know if the supposed twitchiness can be dialled out.
Funnily enough, it used to be that I'd have worked a modicum of overtime to own a genuine car. But these last 10 or 15 years, not so much...sure they're great, but they're also old tech and you can do better, which is why I went for an LB. Also why I really like restomods. So I "get" why he didn't want the Real McCoy, but I also get why for some only the genuine article is acceptable. Good job we're inclusive on here innit! ;) :)

Tomorrows LBS offering is Johnny driving the LB in question. Not sure what time it’ll go online though. Anyone that keen can always set an alert on YT :)

Nearly 150,000 views of the first video and over 15,000 views of that one in just over an hour.
Reading the comments on both videos it's clear how much love there is for the Stratos in general.
What fantastic publicity all round.
Awesome!!

That’s pretty special recognition for LB Specialist Cars, once the order books open again they’ll be overflowing! Quite good to hear the impressions of someone like Johnny that’s driven a lot of cars and is better at putting it into words than we could when someone asks what’s it like. I’m glad he used loud and raw, I must’ve put mine together correctly then.

Nearly 315k views between the two videos now. Brilliant advertising for the LB STR.

Jonny's "test drive" video got referenced in the Carscoops news feed. His Lada Niva review got huge numbers after a similar reference. Next stop 500k views ?

Now 336k anyway. And the test drive one has got 106k of them, despite only being live for 3 days....
