How to follow Norm’s ace drive out around the North Pennines and Borders? We’ll try!. Well, we’ve already given out some hints, The Yorkshire Drive 2022 will indeed see us stay in a castle before we sample the best that the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.

The venue is Walworth Castle Hotel, just north of the A66 (oops just outside Yorkshire)!
The cost per room per night for DBB is £130. This is based on two people sharing and includes a three course meal with coffee for Friday and Saturday evenings. The total cost per couple is £260.
Single occupancy is £85 per night so £170 in total.

The 10 rooms that have been put on hold for us are a mixture of suites, 4 posters, doubles and twins (so don’t delay). To book your room please ring on 01325 485470 giving the date of arrival 10 June and quote STRATOSEC as a reference. A non-refundable deposit of £40 is payable at this stage (£20/room/night). A tour of the Castle’s dungeon may be on the cards...

Please let me know when you have reserved your room so that I know who’s coming. June will be here before we know it.

David

David,

We have made our reservation with the Hotel, for the trip in June. Found the booking contact extremely helpful and the accommodation that you have provisionally reserved sounds wonderful. Looking at the web site, the food is making me salivate already, don't know how I am going to make it to June 2022!!!

Really looking forward to being in the Yorkshire Dales again next year.

You can include me on that too - just booked for me and Leah....or whoever I might be with by next June ;)

Coupla things though - they said it was only £230, and I had to pay the full amount up front. Cats are looking very nervous now, as there's no dosh left for food this week :0

All being well Norm’s hiccup when booking his room has now been resolved. Please could members ask for Jess Todd (Events Manager) when they wish to book a room, as she is personally looking after our parties bookings from now on.

Hi David

All booked in for the 2 of us. I've paid £40 deposit and told the total is £260 so I suspect Norm must have a room with nice airbeds !
Now where is Yorkshire !
Who knows this could be the first trip for 20 years in the Allora, as at the present rate I'm finding two things broken for every one that gets fixed in the refurb, after its nearly 20 years "resting" under a sheet in the garage.

Now that the SEC has experienced a recent plethora of IVA passes and a follow up wave coming along shortly, together with some re-commissions that are well in hand, those who are experiencing these 'Euphoric Moments' should be thinking of how to enjoy the driving experience of their pride and joy handy work.

One very enjoyable way to do this would be to experience the joys of the Yorkshire Dales on the route that David J has planned for next June, based on a fellowship stay at Walworth Castle Hotel with likeminded fellow members.

David has arranged a great package at very reasonable cost for the weekend stay at this super Hotel, take a look at the Castle web site, https://walworthcastle.co.uk/ (https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwalworthcastle.co.uk%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7C4280d0f62f4e42cb4d7908d9b505d8c0%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637739858975436446%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=sGNWq7T0hQdYSJR4inUGpkkrea3ioL%2FI%2FmUkhTeRmFQ%3D&reserved=0) and do come along and join us. The previous events have all been memorable fun. More details are given by David in the first post on this string.

The roads in Yorkshire are fabulous for our Strati, you won't be disappointed. An experience that will lead to an enhancement of your appreciation of the uniqueness of the design of the car that you have built.

Yeah, easy for you to say, the uniqueness being that I might have the car but I bl**dy can't get in it!! :)

Yeah, easy for you to say, the uniqueness being that I might have the car but I bl**dy can't get in it!! :) Surely you just flop into it. Getting out is the embarrassing bit.

Normb666
03-12-2021, 18:25
I can't just "flop" into a Stratos, cos 1) I'd hit my head on the top of the door opening going in, and 2) my name isn't Fosbury. However I have, recently, begun to develop a strategy that gets me in and out without resulting in too much hilarity....I'll give my knees 6 months :)

I've found the best technique for getting out is to use your elbows - left one on the windscreen edge on the A-pillar and right one on the body "hip" just aft of the doorframe - plus accompanying groaning !

Another reason to be in Yorkshire in June next year, this could be a Vintage year!!!! whatever the weather.

Hi to all those going on the Yorkshire Dales drive in June. My wife Annalisa and I will be joining you for what I'm sure will be a great weekend. Sadly I'm some way off being able to come in a Stratos but hopefully that will be rectified next year!!

Hi David

Friday
Pete - Smoked trout salad, Pork, Eton mess
Julie - Smoked trout salad, Pork, Eton mess

Saturday
Pete - Mushrooms, Chicken, Crumble
Julie - Soup, Chicken, Ice Cream

David can I point out Julie has a severe nut allergy ( all nuts ).
Would you be able to let the hotel know - or we can of course.

I'm really hoping to get there in my rattly old Allora which is finally on the road again after a small 20 year interlude.
There's still 14 things on the to-do/buy/fix list, but I'm getting there one at a time and now its not one step forward 2 back thank goodness.

Cheers

Please find attached below the route details for the Dales Drive which covers some 160 miles or so, visiting the Tan Hill for coffee and cake (highest pub in Britain). We will pass by the Ribblehead Viaduct, Pen-y-ghent, Halton Gill (birth place of the Corse), Hubberholme, Hawes, Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle and Barningham Moor.

That's a nice route David, and taking in some of my favourite places.
Sadly won't be able to make it (again!), but I feel like I'm missing out.
We are in Scotland for the foreseeable.
Thought about you lot today when we passed the entrance to the Shap Wells after a comfort break at the truckstop.
Wishing you all a great trip too.

21-05-2022, 19:25
Don't worry, John, it'll be rubbish. Honest ;)

Just had a look at the route and it looks like a good 'un, including the "Launch into Space" road before Gayle - that was where, back in '89, 5 of us, in a Fiat Croma, were following Steve Greenwood in his new-chassis Litton (demo'ing it to a journalist) at a rather high speed when we unwittingly took off as the road dropped away...crapped meself, as did the other 4, and thought the car might disintegrate on landing - fortunately it didn't but it sure woke us up!!! No wonder I've got no hair...

This may be helpful for anyone on the run this weekend. It should open the complete route in Google maps without any ?optimisation? so should follow David?s directions - but I can?t guarantee it 😬

I have a GPX version but I can?t figure out how to attach it. Any ideas anyone ?

I?m looking forward to getting my fillings shaken out in the first major outing for my Allora - if it makes it from Northampton.

Normb666
08-06-2022, 16:23
Yo Pete - no, the forum software won't accept GPX files, thinks they're summat to do with old Lambrettas or Kawasakis. I think all you can do is send an email to anyone who wants a copy, with it attached.

The club has a licenced copy of the Rally Roadbook software which produces directions in tulip form. It was something that was ex-Treasurer Mark's baby and he produced versions for a few of the drive-outs. I've not done anything with it as I've had enough going on of late, but if anyone else wants to use it, jump right in! Probably a but late for this "do" but there's the August drive-out coming up shortly....

As for me and the Yorks Run, I've already memorised the whole route so I don't have to rely on Leah's navigating non-skills, so I'm alright.....Jack :)

Wow Robin, what a great photo of all the assembled Strati. You must have had some ladder to take that shot!
Is it just me or do the stripes on Dave's car make it look so much bigger even taking into account it's the closest to the camera? Perhaps it's just the 17" wheels all round that make the difference....
Cheers!

Had a great time and it's always good to catch up with peeps. Congrats to Pete and Julie Hubbard on getting their Allora back on the road after many years and being brave enough to take it out on the run for a shakedown!

Well what a fabulous weekend. Well done to David for organising the route and everything else. After many years being in the club it was a first for me and my wife Julie to get to meet so many club members at a superb setting. I was particularly pleased to finally get my old Allora on the road after a 20 year plus layoff and thankfully it went pretty much without any problems. We did around 600 miles all in and I?ve just about recovered although my ears are still ringing. Bring on the next run.
