Chaps (and any Chapesses),

Thought it might be an idea to see who's going to the Big Stoneleigh Gig, on the basis that no-one's replied to my initial post about the AGM actually happening...don't fancy standing in a big tent talking to meself :(

If you're gonna show up, bung yer name down here, and also mention if you're going in a Stratos of whatever flavour - ta!

Chairman Norm

Planning on being at the show but not sure I'll be able to get away from the stand.

I think Gerry is expecting to be fighting the hordes of punters with cheque books open when they see his new "tin car"...

But if I can get away I'll stick my head in!

Any discounts available for tickets?
Thinking of coming as a mate fancies a Chesil.
he is too long for a Stratos!

Normb666

Not via the club, no - everyone pays the same. Only exception is if you come in a kit car, the driver gets in free. And maybe the passenger if they fit in the boot :)

Would have loved to be at Stoneleigh and had every intention earlier, but with the whole Covid thing held off incase it may have been cancelled, now flights, trains and accommodation just too expensive. Hope everyone has a great time.

Aw that's a shame, Kenny. But don't worry, it'll be shite, so you've dodged a bullet.

I'm making member sticker labels, so it would be good to know.
Even if it's a 'probably'?

Norm it's just as well that you will be going to 'salon prive' sans Stratos, I've checked with the organisers and they have confirmed ' les roues bleues sont interdites'

Regarding the SEC AGM:

I think this club is very fortunate to have Norm in his role as Chairman.
No-one else could single handedly turn a potentially tedious meeting into a good humoured and entertaining experience.

Normb666
29-08-2021, 13:00
Chris, thanks for those kind words. I think the club's very lucky I managed to pull it off, given I've not a clue what I'm doing... :)

As for the do - not what you'd call a large turnout, more like a select cross-section of the membership (ahem). But good to see the cars, great to meet up again, and even the weather was good (as proven by light sunburn on the head...forgot the sunblock, didn't I).
The actual AGM itself went off well, I thought, and I think we did justice to the topics covered. We even managed to get someone to handle Regalia - step forward Dave Evans (STR_Strat). I'll be offloading...sorry, transferring... all the gear to him shortly and hopefully we'll have that side of things back up and running soon. The existing committee were all re-elected pretty much unanimously, and as for all the detail of what was discussed, I'll knock up the Minutes when I get the chance (and the enthusiasm) and bung them on here, probably minus the funnies, heckling, and general mayhem. For those who were there, rest assured I'll be working on the suggestion of a Naked Calendar of a selection of members (er, that's "members" as in people, not....well, ya know...), so...any volunteers? ;)

Dave, if I'd known you were going, I'd have gone too, if only to kick you with my blue shoes :) As it was, I was under the impression no-one would be there so I didn't see the point in driving all that way and back!

What was the show like?
How many halls were used and were the usual kitcar manufacturers there?

Guy Mayers
30-08-2021, 23:35
Hi Tom. this year the show was down to one hall, the main one. They managed to cram all the exhibitors in there including the usual nuts and bolts people. There were a few, very few, stalls outside. Apart from Hawk (three cars vs the usual 6) AK Cars Westfield, Crendon were there and another few manufacturers.

Visitor numbers were way down on previous years. No surprise there really given the current Covid situation?

Having said that the visitors we saw on Gerry's stand were a strong series of sales leads. The usual day 2 family day trip crowd were absent!

Club stands outside were fewer than in the past. With fewer cars on. Clubs seemed to have chosen one day or the other.

So, would I be surprised if this was the last Stoneleigh? Probably not! I can't believe the exhibitors will have made a profit this year. Which will have to have covered 2 years operations...

Sadly most of the visitors to the show completely failed to appreciate Gerry's new tin car. A few were blown away by it. None admitted to being able to afford it....

I had a gander at the steel monocoque, and it’s a lovely thing indeed. Not sure I understand the target audience though, but then I guess I wouldn’t!

It's just part of a larger plan.
The manufacture of OE fit components will increase the amount of off the shelf parts available for owners of original Lancia Stratos cars.
At the same time, some of those parts may be of interest to Stratos kit builders.
Having said that, the popularity of OE parts is in decline, as far as kit builders goes.

Normb666
31-08-2021, 10:28
This all reinforces my argument from 2019 that maybe it's time we held the AGM elsewhere. No harm in having a pitch at Stoneleigh too though. Let's see how things shape up in the coming year.

Was there any discussion on remanufacturing over centre latches ?e

Normb666
31-08-2021, 13:12
Yes, the clam catches are in hand. Treasurer Mark was dealing with the engineering company who've been looking at remanufacturing them for us, but he's been very ill and so it's on hold for now, but as soon as we have something to tell you, we will.

So how many Hawk manufactured parts are there on the 'Hawk HF2400'?
I'm presuming body?

Griff
06-09-2021, 22:03
John, without wishing to be pedantic, when you say HF2400, do you mean the latest steel centre tub variant? or the earlier Hawk fitted with the Dino motor?

john
06-09-2021, 22:12
The current steel tub car under construction and displayed at Stoneleigh is, I believe, being dubbed as the Hawk HF2400.

Guy Mayers
06-09-2021, 23:59
Gerry is planning on remaking the non Fiat Parts Bin components of the car. There's little point in re-inventing the wheel unnecessarily. So, tub and all suspension components are remade except shock absorbers (available from Gaz) and the front stub axle. He's tooled up for the rubber cones for the rear chassis for example as well as rear hub carriers. Steering rack is under review for remanufacture I think. Fuel tanks are being remade. Front louvre panels to correct pattern too. Standard Hawk bodywork and screens of course bar the steel tub obviously. There is already a myriad of other components redone such as accurate radiators, fans and shrouds not previously available anywhere. Research and sourcing is ongoing and won't be finalised until the first cars are completed. This show was probably too early to launch a halo project like this and was probably also the wrong show. The February rally show at Stoneleigh is the one to watch if the car is finished by then. Although I suspect it'll appear without the front and rear clips.

The Wikipaedia that is Prototipo tells me that the racks for the original Stratos were unique to it and made by Cam Gears (later TRW Cam Gears) in Wales; Gerry tells me he is using these for the HF2400, but still uses the Herald/Spitfire rack on his other models.
