24 uren van ieper 1977

For what it is worth, I competed on the 1977 Ypres 24 Hrs European championship Rally, in my Simca.
The rally was won by:

13 1977 Bernard Darniche (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Darniche) Alain Mahé Lancia Stratos HF (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancia_Stratos)

Guess that's why I ended up with a blue one....

I must have some pictures somewhere.

That's impressive, I can't imagine many people can put "competed against Bernard Darniche in a Strato's" on their CV.

Definitely like to see some photos, especially of you in action, any stories from the event you care to share?

Vince.

Running at 158, (2nd car in the pic) I don't think Bernard thought of us as competition...
We'd had no time to prepare the car, my brother had dropped his Escort Mexico on us in the weeks previously for major works and that had taken up all the time. It happened often .
We retired on the second day with overheating.
We did the Donegal Rally in 1978, finishing 6th in class with a broken differential...
Organizers produced an event sheet of cuttings from previous rallies. Nice shot of the Chequered Flag Strato's, driven by Cahal Curley. It hit the side of a bridge, in the first few stages, breaking a stub axle.
Enrico Inurrieta used to do the Sherry Rally in Jerez. We did that one several times too...
Bits of my rally cars lie all over Europe.

Superb model combination, I'm currently building a similar Alitalia version, what's the story with the Chardonnet version, is it a custom build?

Yes, it's a fine 1:43 scale set-up made by Altaya, acquired through Ebay France... looks great!
