It is these sort of emails, I guess to people who have bought tickets before.
I now get them regularly.

As Ken isn't arranging the stand this year does anyone else want to step up?

I have no plans to attend this year, turnout has been poor the last couple of years. That might change once the music lineup is announced but highly unlikely.

Hi all
The turn out might be bad as its now on a bank holiday, the last before school starts.
I can’t make it as I’ve got the scouts cycling in the Newforest.

Off the cuff I just asked Silverstone that as the club had not yet registered what I could do if I wanted to turn up in a classic car but "without a home to go to"
So I contacted them as their website suggested
20597
To be told - "join a car club" that is registered to attend such as The Sporting Bears

They also told me to contact Ken to "encourage the club to register"

Well that's a helpful response.....not....
If I'd been thinking of going, that'd have been enough for me to look for something else to do on a Bank Holiday! - still, that's me, I'm just a curmudgeonly old git. Given Ken's recent health problems, I suggest that if anyone feels strongly enough about going, they do the biz and take over the club pitch organization, for this year at least, as per Guy's suggestion above. Or, we could just give it a miss this time and have a lie-in instead :)

The only problem i see of not going is that the club my loose its pitch inside the circuit.

I am keen to go but probably only do 2 of the 3 days.
Can we put something together with shared coverage like Norm organized (press ganged us into at Gordons's garage day).
Presumably all we need is the flag stuck in the ground and some cars parked up. I will go and play golf with Ian and Paul

How many cars must agree to go each day
Who wants to go
On what days

I'm not sure if the Lancia Moter Club are going this year? It might be worth asking if they minded if we shared a space with them? Or another friendly club?

I've never actually been to the Silverstone Classic and have had nothing at all to do with the club pitch, but does anyone know if the club has to front up any dosh? If not, someone can book a place for, say, 5 or 6 cars and then all you have to do is keep this thread updated with news/costs/attendees. Oh, and then turn up for the gig, natch :)

I’ve organised this event since 1999. In the early days we had up to 25 cars on the stand. We also had financial support from the club. On issuing a club display, Silverstone want to see 10 plus cars each day. More latterly I’ve struggled to get even 5.
Unfortunately, for health reasons I may not be able to be at the event, but am happy to organise the stand if enough members will commit to attending.
Currently only one club member has shown an interest, if you would like to attend please let me know asap in order that I can make contact with Silverstone.

Hi Ken, yeah, it's hard these days to get peeps fired up enough to actually take their cars out to a do! Suppose it's the change in demographic - back in the Old Days when people hadn't spent as much on the cars and they were almost considered disposable (the cars, not the people!), and the owners were old-school enthusiasts, they'd jump at these events. But now, with rising values and replicas worth a hell of a lot more, owners don't seem to be as bothered about socialising. In fact when a car gets sold on these days, the new owner doesn't bother with the club at all. Oh well, such is life in the New Stratos Apathy Club. :)

Appreciate your offer to organise the stand once more but I know you've been ill, so let someone else take the strain this time and just be available to give advice if needed. If anyone DOES give this a go (assuming the requisite 10 cars are on the cards) and a club donation is needed, I can't see that being a problem....just let me know and I'll authorise our esteemed Treasurer to make large with the shekels ;)

Having never been to the classic, I have a few questions, out of the three days which would be the best to attend,
am I right in thinking there’s a parade lap on the Sunday and do any of the club car take part in this !!
do we have to buy a 3 day ticket for this ?

I've been to every one Dave.
Saturday is the day.

I'm sure Tom R. (for example, see above) will have booked a car pass +2 for the Saturday only.

We (or I) need to stop calling it the Silverstone Classic.
It's the Silverstone Festival now.

I can't see any 'early bird' cut off dates mentioned on Silverstone's website, but at least two cars clubs (Club Lotus and Morgan) have quoted 3rd April as one price increase date.

It seems so Dave.
The thing is, they've brought this regime in since I bought the tickets, and I've only got a dumbphone.

You had me worried there for a minute, and I had to check, but thankfully car parking is still free for this event.
They only charge for parking at the GP and MotoGP.

Chaps, can I have a volunteer for the Saturday to perform a hard but rewarding task on behalf of the club please.... ;)

I've been contacted by a guy called Nick Wilkinson from Adrian Flux, who's organising something to celebrate their 50th. This includes a place at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, on the Hamilton Straight apparently, and food and drink will be provided. Unfortunately it's just one person per club so is there anyone who's got no mates who'd like to give it a go? Need to know ASAP so I can tell him!

Thanks to Ken for organizing and thanks to Ian and Paul for the shelter.
On returning on Sunday morning from our accommodation at the salubrious National Badminton Centre - great accommodation and price plus fantastic Chinese restaurant 1/2 mile away - George and I pulled in for petrol.
On coming out of the forecourt shop a gent was looking at my car.
"Very nice" he said
"Thanks, but it's not real I said"
"I know he said, but you made a good job of it (praise indeed!)"
Anyway we started chatting and it turns out he has a red one, but was not driving it at the weekend as he was competing in some races. He said he would try to come over to the shelter, weather and races permitting

Hi Steve,
That was Paul Tattersall. He's got a real Stratos, and he was racing his Ensign F1 car.

Ok, first of all, a big thank you to Ken Tomblin for sorting the club stand with Silverstone. Especially as Ken didn't know if he was going himself!
Thanks to Julie Tomblin and Paul Hassall for putting the shelter up. I noted the neat symmetry with the Droop Snoot Group next door.
'Nice to see Tom Ransom and Max, Ollie Tomblin and Mrs Ollie, Steve Sellars and Steve's Dad, Steve Cook, Dave Beresford and Tim.

The weather turned out to be pretty good for the whole 3 days. When it did rain, it was fairly brief and often made one end of the circuit wet and the other dry. This made for some interesting racing.
The racing was as enjoyable as ever, but there's so many races on Saturday that it's a challenge to see all that you don't want to miss. For me, Friday is usually about doing everything else that doesn't involve watching the racing, so I had a look round the trade village with Ken, Julie, Paul and then Ian Hassall, after he turned up on his bike. After Ken Julie and Paul went back to the stand on one of the free buses, I walked over to the National pits. On Sunday I managed to get a bus to the International pits (Silverstone Wing) and get back to the infield (on another bus) before the first race started. Later on Sunday I watched the Formula 1 race from the Hamilton Straight grandstand, and saw Lancia Stratos owner Paul Tattersall spin his Ensign on a very greasy track. He didn't hit anything and neatly turned out of the spin to make the car go straight and forwards, which looked quite impressive. 'Had a look at the vast collection of RS200s, the display of current F1 cars and some of the other club stands before spectating again in the Luffield/Woodcote grandstand towards the end of Sunday afternoon. All in all an enjoyable weekend, if not a little bit tiring. It's probably an age thing? Here's some of the photos I took with one of the first Coolpix that Nikon ever made...

Gosh, it's like someone took photos in the Morrisons car park in St Helens on a Saturday afternoon....you know how it is, people race down there to take advantage of the "25% Off Sirloin" offer or whatever, before it's all gone.

Some great pics though Chris, just wondering which one was yours - I'm thinking it was the Ferrari BB? Or maybe it was the Galaxie, with the bigger boot so you could stuff more bargains in :)

For those who don't know, the Lola T70 Norm was the standard version, similar to a Stratos Stradale, "Norm" being short for "Normale". Ahem....

I had a good friend who used to do that, but it was either 'Safeway' or 'Macfisheries' then!! Dirty Maroon colour so you didn't particularly notice it until he started the Aston Martin engine.

Another pal that did the shopping in a GT 40, as you do, all before the imposition of the 70 mph limit.
