All,

Been chatting to Neil Winnington of Enwin's Motors, who makes various car-related YouTube vids. He used to work on ITV's Men & Motors show, and has a particular soft spot for the Stratos and its replicas.
As a result, he's compiled two Alternative Car Show video specials, the first of which will be released on 14th July, and the second following shortly afterwards. However, he's thinking of putting them together on a DVD along with some "extras", and is wondering if there'd be any appetite among members for such a thing. Obviously he needs a minimum number to make the financials work, so as a sort of "finger in the air" exercise - who'd be up for one? Cost would be about ?12 or maybe even less, plus P&P.

If you can feel your boat slowly starting to float, bung yer name down here so we can see if it's a goer. Gotta be worth it, cos if nothing else you can have a few giggles at various club peeps being interviewed live and doing their best rabbit-in-the-road-on-a-dark-night impersonation. Including me....

I've had a preview...... erm.... 'cos I'm in it..... Sorry of that puts anyone off and hurts sales! How about the club ordering sufficient to get the project sorted and discounting them to the first members who ask for a copy? Just a thought!

I'll have one!

Guy, I did think of that, and it's something we might still do. But just wanted to get an idea of interest to start with. Neil did actually say that those who're in the vids would get a free copy anyway, but I dunno, the guy's practically running on empty finance-wise so I think we should decline that offer and buy a copy.

And, er, yeah, I've seen part 2 as well.....and that's as much as I'll say :) :)

What is this "DVD" that you speak of?
I thought everything got beamed down from space or fired up optical cables these days.
If I order one will it come with a device to play it?
Will it be in colour? Widescreen?
Details matter!!

Put me down for one anyhow.

You've gotta cover both bases, Jim won't know which one he's got unless there are stickers all over it!

Haha.

I'll have you know I was an early adopter of Betamax and reluctantly gave up the fight and converted to VHS after many years of rooting around in the dark corners of Blockbuster Video Hire shops for the scraps of available movies to hire. Always trying to be ahead of the game I remember buying my first ever laser disk player. Follow me on Instagram for more Top Technology Tips.

In other news: I see that Athena have brought out a new Poster. Stratos Reps will be flying off the shelves now. I might need to put my agreed value for the insurance up a bit.

Just in case anybody thinks otherwise, that's not me in the above pic - I'm not as good-looking. The car, however....

Still, great response so far, peeps - think it's gonna be a goer, and we'll see about getting a VHS version for Jim. And we might even do a Braille version for any blind people reading this. (No doubt I'll end up being pilloried for saying that by those who miss the irony, but sometimes you gotta push the limits....)

A standard one?
Surely you've modified it to play 8-track tapes, LP's, MP3's and cook chicken as well.

Latest on this - the Club (i.e, a few of us on the committee) has decided that we'll buy 30 copies of the DVD direct from Neil, and we'll sell them to members at cost plus P&P. This enables him to be certain that he has enough orders so he's not out of pocket on the enterprise, and you lot get a hard copy of nervous amateurs mumbling their words to camera, all for posteriority. Er, I mean, posterity.

Apparently there's one more feature to be filmed, and that will be included on the disc, so it won't be available in the next week or two - but keep an eye on this thread and I'll let y'all know when we've got our sweaty mitts on the merchandise!

All,

I now have 30 copies of this 'ere DVD ready and waiting to be sent out to all you discerning club peeps. Having done a bit of messing around with jiffy bags and post offices and sending one as a test, I can now go "live" and get them out to whoever wants one. Unfortunately they ain't free....they're ?15 a pop which included post and packing. The club's not making anything out of this - OK, maybe 50p or so just rounding up the price - so don't think the committee will be taking it on the lam with the ill-gotten gains, never to be seen again. Or then again, maybe you think ?15 is a bargain to get shot of us.... :)

The procedure is as follows. Get onto PayPal and make a ?15 payment to the STRATOS ENTHUSIASTS CLUB. It'll ask you what the payment's for, so tell it it's a club thing. Then when it asks if it's for a business, or Friends and Family, go for the latter (or the club will be charged for the transaction!). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way you can include your address in this transaction, so PM me on here with your real name and address details and once I've checked on the club PayPal account that you have indeed coughed up, I'll do the biz and send the disc. I'll be hanging on till I've got a few orders before I mooch down to the Post Office, rather than make multiple trips, so don't expect said item in your mailbox the day after!

Right, let the fun begin, and then you can eagerly await your very own copy of this marvellous production, which must surely be a future sought-after appreciating asset. Or not.

Can I suggest you try " treasurer@stratosec.com"

I did a test run payment with Paypal for this DVD and didnt have a problem - but that is maybe beacuse I used it last year for the calendars.

DVD good but does have some quirks and minor issues - which hopefully you will find out about !

Strange. I sent a fiver as a test to the "SEC" on PayPal. But if the "treasurer" thing works then use that!

On the club PP account I can see Ade, Gordon and Aaron have sent money so it all seems to be working....now gotta make sure I get the addresses right :)
