Oh Dear !!! May I say a very uninformative advert for car they want ?200,000 for, the dash is straight out of an EV which is not a good look.
That is an, er, interesting, car. And price...
Surely nobody is going to pay that kind of dough for that kind of car?
Cheers,
Hedge
I haven't been following the build of this car.
200 miles doesn't prove anything unless it's had more extensive testing before 'completion'.
What in God's name is taped to the bottom inside edge of the screen?

Each to their own, I am sure someone, somewhere will love it ??? !!!
To me awful colour, louvers, rear lights etc
Each to their own, and not entirely to my taste, but you need to know the background to this build. It is cover on the Retropowercars youtube channel and the attention to detail is superb.

I really don't see the point of building a replica of a classic like the Stratos and then trying to make it different?

That's steel monocoque Stratos money.
A safer bet, surely?
I really don't see the point of building a replica of a classic like the Stratos and then trying to make it different?
Well, certainly not THAT different.
I'm sure there's a buyer for it tho.
Looks like it might have sold, its 'no longer available' wonder if it went for the asking price?...........

I wouldn't disagree with that Jim. I'm all for uilding cars which look exactly like the original, or as close as you can go given the scarcity of 'original' parts.
Looks like you're right about a buyer too. At least ebay says its no longer available this morning.

Looks as though trying to be a slight homage to the original original. Paint colour and louvers??
I think I may nip down and show them how it should have looked, only 4 miles down the road, but the engine wouldn’t be warm by then.

Depends how quickly you do the 4 miles!
One thing I found confusing that it listed the Make as "Retropower" when the chassis and body were originally LB ?

While I was watching the slightly protracted build on the 'youtube' televisual machine, I oft' wondered how long it would take/cost to put back to sensible/tasteful LB spec...
Hopefully we may find out!
Decent car under the 'add on's' ;)
What a strange turn of circumstances. I've been following the build/conversation of this obviously LB car for about 3 years and it was only delivered to the customer a couple of months ago. It must be heartbreaking for the team at Retropower as they've put a huge amount of effort into making it to the customer's spec!! You're correct Robin it is intended to be a flavour of the Zero. For me they've ruined a perfectly good LB by sticking big air intakes and intercooler grills either side due to the addition of a supercharger which caused significant overheating problems. I think they may struggle to sell it given that it's looks are so far away from a Strat replica and at that price which I suspect reflects the hefty RP bill.
RP must of got something wrong, because my supercharged Stratos has never overheated.:D

Now from 140,000 pounds (https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1868373)
The owner will be getting properly rinsed at that price. God knows what Retropower's build cost will have been.
Trouble is it's neither one thing or the other. Not a replica of the Zero but also a bit too far removed from a Stratos for those interested in a Stratos.
I'm sure there's a buyer for it tho.
Hmmm. Having reflected on it for 14 months I'm now not so sure. It really is neither fish nor fowl and when it was at a daft price I thought there was probably enough daft folk out there to go for a one-off daft car. I'm less sure now who would go for it.
C'mon Jim, if they covered it in stickers and threw a few extra lights on it you'd be all over it! ;)
Haha. To be fair, it does look a bit plain.

Well, it's the usual thing. It's lovely to be able to have something made that's to your personal, exacting specification, but the problem is that when you try to sell it, you find out that your personal, exacting spec isn't shared by anyone else.... at which point, assuming you don't desperately need the moolah, you decide to keep the thing and have some fun in it, probably chief pastime among that long list of Fun Things being pitching up at Strat enthusiast meetings and pissing off other owners (and you should also be partial to the possibility of being beaten to a pulp, too) :)
They?ve probably been changing the cambelt in the 14 months between adverts. The price drop is probably to reflect the fact that it is impossible do do without borking the timing therefore the car itself has a limited shelf life of 3 years max :-P

See, that's exactly why they shoulda ditched the daft supercharged Busso idea and just gone for an off-the-shelf supercharged Toyota/Lotus unit. Supercharger installation already worked out, and no timing belts to worry about either - timing chain replacement recommended at 100K miles, which for the majority of Strat installations, means "never"

Oh yes, I was looking at that last night Leigh.
I'm guessing it might not get to the reserve? We'll see.
LOT 866 (65th car lot no.) Sale starts Saturday 12:00 noon.
Harry really does seem to like a Stratos.
Maybe someone on the club should offer him a car for a video on his channel?

Still far too much, especially given how classic car prices have fallen lately. You never know, though, someone might want it, although most will prefer the "regular" Stratos features and colours rather than this one.

To me, it is neither fish nor fowl. I bet the build quality is fabulous though.
I know it cannot be an original Stratos, but it is neither a Zero replica, or a Stratos replica and as such it is just something someone has built exactly the way they wanted.
Trouble is, selling something that is a one off, that is so bespoke on looks is likely to be a big challenge.
Like they say when selling your house, "take the pictures down and paint the walls magnolia", make it as non-bespoke as possible
A magnolia coloured Stratos would be a sight to see!
