Apologies for the delay in rescheduling but I have now managed to move our AGM from May Bank Hol weekend (clash with holidays) to Sunday 22nd September 2024.

Sunday 22nd September 2024
Gaydon Motor Museum
South Wing 4
Banbury Road Gaydon
Lighthorne Heath
Warwick
CV35 0BJ

The venue was well received by the club last year with ample parking and great facilities including access to the museum itself.

I will confirm finer details on timings and cost in due course but expect everything to be broadly in line with last years event.

To facilitate greater inclusion for those who live further afield we are planning to facilitate a Zoom meeting but would still encourage members to attend if they can.

Hope this is okay for everyone and apologies for the overlap with Gordon?s garage day.

Many, many thanks for organizing all this, Neil. Yer doing a great job as Events man!

It was a great do last year, loads of fun, games and many laughs. ....oh OK, I'm prob overdoing it a bit - it was an AGM after all - but not as dry and boring as you might think. And you get to meet and chat to lots of interesting people, and maybe a few who aren't ;) :) :)

I'd like to "attend" via the live link please. Google tells me it's an 830 mile round trip so I think I'll let the internet take the strain.

I'd still like a pork pie and some crisps tho (so I can blend in with the northerners)

Hi All
Just over a month to go to the AGM and I need to confirm numbers, if you could kindly let me know asap please. Post 2 has all the details.
PPAL ?20 per person as a gift to: neilbeardsley@icloud.com

Griff can you sort the Zoom side of things please?

Norm will be circulating the Agenda in the next few days

Please support in person if you can, this is a great opportunity to meet up, be involved in the affairs of the club and have a good day out, equally looking forward to meeting the wider Stratosec community via the Zoom call.
For those that haven't been to the AGM before it is a very relaxed affair lasting typically less than an hour. Buffet lunch and motor museum tour included.

All the best
Neil

Just starting to compile the agenda now. If anyone has anything they'd like discussing, let me know and I'll add it to the items. I'll put it up on here in early September - gives everyone a bit of ruminating time.

We went over the Stelvio both ways 41 years ago on my trusty Laverda Jota on our honeymoon. I have always promised myself a return trip in my Allora or even another bike so I am very envious, but then I'm possibly not up to it anymore.
I hope its not rammed with cyclists, walkers and dawdlers for you.

Twice up the twisty side in the Stratos, down the other side once, tested the brakes severely on the way down the twisty side. Also done it as a passenger in an Integrale. A very slow run up.. Stayed at the hotel at the top overnight and got snowed in..... It was cold that night. Very very cold.

As I understand it:

Take the first road at the roundabout near the main gates, rather than the second one which goes through the main gates. NOT where we were last year.
Show Parking yellow temp. signs are shown on Street View.
Follow the red dotted line on the .pdf map on Neil's post. Drive past a driving school area on the left.

Much Kudos for making the journey from the IoW. Sorry we did not get to talk much longer. At my 1st Stoneleigh in 2010 or 2011 when I had just committed a deposit on all the bits, you helped me immensely by telling me what stands to visit and what catalogues to pick up.
I am a Pompey lad, so apologies in advance for the comments I am about to make.
Yesterday we talked about a Southern drive out. How about a circuit of the IoW. Some nice roads on the SW part from memory.
It is 50 years of the Stratos and my recollection of all my teenage trips to IoW was like going back in time 50 years - seems appropriate

If they're happy with them and can recommend them?
I gave a couple of our own clubs main forum gripes, and why we are asking for info.

The issue all forums are built using a data structure, and exporting/importing this to a new platform would be a lot of work, or just not possible depending on the migration path.

Xenforo, invision, phpBB and maybe others can be migrated too, but I assume all would come with there own problems/challenges.

All forums have so many features and settings. I personally don't think the site is using them to the full advantages, for example the calendar section to put all the events into, if you don't know about things then it is hard to use/see them.

Also ads, these should be turned off for paying members, but show for none visitors/registered users.

Chris, thanks for doing some digging. But Kev raises a good point about upgrading what we've got and customising it some more so it fits our requirements better, because we wouldn't touch the accumulated data in that scenario. No harm in seeing what else is out there though, cos you never know....

Anyway, thanks to everyone who came to Gaydon on Sunday, and put up with us wittering on about this and that and, for once, nobody heckled :) :) You're all going soft.....

The pop ups seem to have gone???

Normb666
09-10-2024, 15:19
Quite possibly - Kev (who's volunteered to help us upgrade the forum software, etc) has been having a mooch around behind the scenes, after we got hold of the support logon credentials, and it seems that the ads directed any possible income from them to an unknown party. So maybe we were hacked, in a mild sort of way, and I think Kev has managed to suppress the popups.

We think we've identified a way forward that includes a fully-managed and hosted solution. It'll mean the forum being down for a couple of days, but it won't be happening for a while yet as investigations continue (and we're paid up till next Spring regarding hosting fees anyway). There'll be prior notification of any changes under a separate thread so watch out for more info!

Kev must have done something Norm,
For me, it's way better now. I don't know if it's just me, because no other forum users have commented. Apart from Steve C. who's got his own line of defence.
For the sake of it, I'll gather the feedback from other car clubs, in case it's still of interest.

I am still unable to get the member map to work as I wanted, I might need to look for addon that is still supported for the 21st century.
