Ferrari (including Dino) exhaust valve heads were hollow and filled with sodium to keep them cool.
The 'life' of these type of exhaust valves is shorter, and eventually the valve heads fall off the stem. This is not a good thing.

Lanca Beta Volumex engines also use sodium filled exhaust valves but I've not heard of them having an issue yet. give them another 20 years?

One of the problems with those valves was if they caused you to break down at the side of the road. If the police turned up, and they found the sodium all over parts of the electrical system, you could get done for a salt and battery. Honest.
