Out of curiosity some clocks seem to have the needle working from the bottom and numbers above and others the needle working from the top and numbers below. Which was period correct or were both used in the day on the works Stratos.

Kenny,
On a Stradale, it should be like the attached. 50/50 (not 40/40) 'AMPERE', (not AMPS) no yellow lettering, and VEGLIA BORLETTI behind the needle, not at the bottom on the front face, like the rest of the small gauges are.
I don't know about the group 4 gauges. I've never studied them.

Thank Chris for the reply about the Stradale gauges . But the Grp4 I have seen the two tyes of 40/40 gauge with the needle working from the bottom and the top, so I'm not sure as to which is correct ir they possibly used both.

I should know this crap off the top of my head Kenny! Maybe I'm getting old....

The Stradale minor gauges are 52mm cases and were used in non factory cars converted to Group 4 on a budget. You can get similar size gauges from other Fiats with the needles pivoted at the bottom or aftermarket ones pivoted at the side with orange scripts/needles.

The factory Group 4 cars used a bigger case (60mm) for all the gauges except the huge rev counter. These gauges have centrally mounted (like a clock) needles for the oil pressure, combined oil and water temperature, speedometer and vertical needles, pivot a the bottom, for volts, amps and fuel.

As Guy say the Gp4 cars had the larger aux gauges-
The ammeter does look to be a +40/-40

Thank for the info Guys , I knew the diameter and the -40/+40 it is just the pivot point of the needle . This one has the pivot point at the top according to Guys post the pivot point should be at the bottom on a Grp4 . I had seen both used I think Vinces car the needle pivots at the top and Guys at the bottom
