That looks like a thorough refresh indeed. Where is it?

It would be great if they photographed each stage of the rebuild and posted it online somewhere, a bit like the firm who race prepare Ferrari 308's and was posted on the old forum, their website was amazing.

I can see a WRC 'Mini' in the background Mick.

Spot the mods on the Stratos tub:
Roll cage and door bars.
Tubular ross brace in the back.
Battery box/tray?, up front.
Swaged holes in the front box section/spare wheel support.
'Looks like there's been a piece cut out and welded back in, on the vertical face at the back of where the spare wheel would sit.

Yes Chris, I noticed some of those points including the 'Mini' in the background.
I thought BTR Preparations in Castleford did all the VK work but not sure if this is their place or not.

Would be great to get some detailed shots inside and out great to have on our site for ref and attracting enthusiasts . As Vince said shots of the build would be great too.
Maybe the club could approach Steve to allow us to take some shots . I would take a day off to go and photograph the chassis

Of course we have to appreciate that according to an 'expert' on the old forum, this car isn't a Stratos at all.
We obviously have a lot to learn yet.

Bulkhead welding looks really untidy.

This is the bit that's been altered.

Interesting comparison.

I would love to have access to a chassis like this. I would love to build a replica using the original design. I am more of a metal fabricator then a fiberglass person and would love to take on this challenge.

I'm just about to send some pics of original tubs to the chap who fabricated the Gartrac steel tubs.
He's wanting to make some more.

I know who has some jigs, 'don't think there's much chance of getting access to them though?

That looks different to how I remember seeing the cage above the rear bulkhead it used to have a full cage inside doubling up the original. Is it his second car being built ?

That makes a lot is sense, I'm now betting it's a 2nd tub being prepared.

I think you're right Rob. There should be more (additional inside) cage visible.

If I rallied one of these original cars (ha!), I'd have a replica tub made, and save the original one.
I'm sure a lot of that goes on in historic racing?

As seen here after about 15secs in.

Still love that vid. What superb driver he still is. And he didn't break it doing the event later either

There's a few more projects (http://www.mat.fi/n_index.php?nav=gallery&gallery=13&p=1) posted. I thought the A2's were galvanised, bad case of tin worm!!

If it's supposed to be a link to the in car Waldergard VK test, then I'm with you Rob.

I didn't think my respect for Bjorn Waldergard could get any bigger, then I went to see him driving the Stratos on the Robin Hood rally ....
Just amazing talent, and he doesn't seem to be slowing down much?
He's the best Stratos driver ever, and probably the best rally driver ever.

??? not sure what happened there. I tested it worked after I'd posted it too !

Yes Chris it was the test vid for the Robin Hood. He's still better than most as a pensioner.

updated again now anyway.

'Just watched it again.
He's got so much of a feel for what the car's doing. He only puts on the correct amount of lock needed in any situation.
I've changed my mind,... I hate him!
