What you're doing Ian, is compensating for the difference in thickness between the thin steel of the X1/9 door and whatever thickness your fibreglass Stratos door actually is in this area. This probably varies between types of kit. You do this by shifting the part that locates with the stricker (see before and after mock up) I've exaggerated the position in the mocked up photo.
You need to need to grind away the blobs of weld holding the inner (square) end of the shaft. Don't get carried away and melt any of the plastic parts though! Then you re weld it in the position you'll need it. It's best to find out how thick the fibreglass is on this part of the door. 'Might be a good idea to make the hole where this part of the catch goes though the door. I'll post a photo of the dark blue car here.
