Retropower Stratos at Scramble, Bicester Heritage, 6/10/2024
First Scramble I've been to. It's a big gig, much much larger than I anticipated. The car park isn't a million miles away - in terms of interest - than what's on show in the main show.
You'd never believe we were living in times of austerity, to say the least...
Anyhoo.... I happened upon this wee car. A "Retropower Stratos HF Volumex", to give it its correct name. Strange looking thing, to my eyes at least, but each to their own.
Cheers,
Hedge

Started life as an LB (kit) and was built by Retropower (in Hinckey) for a customer. Idea was a 'nod' to the Strato's concept, hence the colours and the strange interior. Lots of info of the build on their website and their youtube channel.

Has a supercharged busso in it

Owner put it up for sale just after it was finished. Was on ebay for ?200k in Feb this year. Listing was ended don't think it sold. It is still at Retropower's workshops.

Poorly planned? A huge chunk of chassis missing to clear the charger belt. I sincerely hope they've put something else in to make up for it. Even if they have I wouldn't call it clever.

Heat management will be a challenge too! Not much room in there. I guess that's why they have the big 'intakes' at the sides

The lower ducts on the sides of the car feed the charge cooler rad on one side and the oil cooler on the other side, these exit through the vents on the arches but the bigger question would be how does the hot air exit the engine bay if the rear louvre is all but sealed. The big ears behind the B post will scoop air in but where does it go from there?
Looking at the pedal positions then the customer will need short legs for the clutch and even more so for the throttle pedal?

It's not to my taste but each to their own! Retropower have done some stunning builds over the years.
