Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
The ex Gosling car owner is surely the auctionner of this sale in Allianz Riviera arena
he live in Toulouse and I met him during a previous sale in his Castle
He is a old sport car collector ...but maybe also a speculator !
not very clear and a bit confusion with informations about cars for sale!
Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
I can't agree with you exactly there Chris. For sure the old "buyer beware", "caveat emptor" should always apply through common sense when parting with your hard earned.
But when a seller deliberately, or even innocently, misleads by his representation of what is for sale I have to come down squarely against that.
Quite definitely my current viewpoint on this is tinted from more that three and a half years now of trying to sort out a mess caused by just that kind of misrepresentation....
It has been said to me recently that something is worth "whatever the buyer is prepared to pay". Yes. But when the buyer thinks he is buying something because he's seen it described as something , then when it actually turns out to BE something ELSE then he's been conned. No excuses. Especially when the seller damn well should know it was something else in the first place!
Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
My big issue on the advert above is that the only time the word replica is used in the ad, it's preceded by the words "is not".
And I dont think much is getting lost in the translation.
Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
Is it just me or is the only reference to the car being a Lister Bell being the chassis number? (LBSTR11AR30MC0007) That being the case, why would the ad not state who it was actually made by? Bit odd.
Cheers,
Hedge.
Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
Not specifically with the LB kit car here. The description for this LB is a bit iffy, I agree.
What I mean is, generally:
Some people are paying what it takes to secure 'blue chip' classic cars.
They only know 100% what they're getting into because someone advised them, and it's in the blurb.
They have no intention of using them.
The price of everything else remotely interesting is dragged up accordingly.
Now the types of cars, some of us used to own, or might like to own are way out of our reach.
If people can afford to buy the cars they've always wanted, that fine.
I hate it when collectable cars are bought just as investments and not because of a genuine interest. If some of the latter get caught out here and there because of their ignorance, I'm not going to loose any sleep.
Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
Oh well I can agree with all of that wholeheartedly.
My issue is sellers misleading descriptions.
Let's face it Ebay is absolutely rife with it and their disputes resolution procedures very busy because of it. I would not go near some items on eBay because of instantly recognisable "iffy" descriptions. Even if I was really interested in the item for sale.
But, when it comes down to this level of sale, value, and specialisation, then I think descriptions which seem to deliberately avoid giving a full and detailed description of what the item actually is smacks of deception if not downright dishonesty.

You'd think in this case, the auctioneers would see that the description was all above board?
It's in their interests to?
Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
I think it is the auctioneer who owns the car?
Re: Stratos Replica for Sale
when you look at lot 185 he chooses to use the word "replica"...........

You're fully right John
the auctioneer owns this LB
In pic here on last historic Tour de Corse
I don't know how he was authorized to use a replica for this race?!
I think he is friend with the organizer Yves Loubet (former rally driver)
