Thanks for Norms, Robin, Neil, john keep up the good work.
Dave
Ian, that was spectacular of you to come up from the IoW yesterday, you make me feel very humble for not attempting to travel down in my car because of the weather.
Thank you for coming.
PS why are all your gauges behind the Steering Wheel reading zero, has the rain got at them?
Robin
Guys and gals.
If you can make an Alfa v6 (not wishing to exclude Ian snd/or Paul) run in a Stratos then you can follow the link for ad block and install it onto your browser - Edge, Chrome etc
Just click on the big red banner
https://getadblock.com/en/
see no ads or pop ups.

It could be argued that the ads are, in fact, more interesting than the forum posts....oh, and the guy at the charity do was one of my many nominated stand-ins who I send out on such occasions, being as in-demand as I am. Ahem.
I have asked 20 car clubs which forum platforms they use.
If they're happy with them and can recommend them?
I gave a couple of our own clubs main forum gripes, and why we are asking for info.
I've already had a reply from Club Alpine-Renault, (and now the MR2 Owners Club) but will report back when I get more.
The issue all forums are built using a data structure, and exporting/importing this to a new platform would be a lot of work, or just not possible depending on the migration path.
Xenforo, invision, phpBB and maybe others can be migrated too, but I assume all would come with there own problems/challenges.
All forums have so many features and settings. I personally don't think the site is using them to the full advantages, for example the calendar section to put all the events into, if you don't know about things then it is hard to use/see them.
Also ads, these should be turned off for paying members, but show for none visitors/registered users.
Chris, thanks for doing some digging. But Kev raises a good point about upgrading what we've got and customising it some more so it fits our requirements better, because we wouldn't touch the accumulated data in that scenario. No harm in seeing what else is out there though, cos you never know....
Anyway, thanks to everyone who came to Gaydon on Sunday, and put up with us wittering on about this and that and, for once, nobody heckled :) :) You're all going soft.....
Do you blame me??? ;)
Quite possibly - Kev (who's volunteered to help us upgrade the forum software, etc) has been having a mooch around behind the scenes, after we got hold of the support logon credentials, and it seems that the ads directed any possible income from them to an unknown party. So maybe we were hacked, in a mild sort of way, and I think Kev has managed to suppress the popups.
We think we've identified a way forward that includes a fully-managed and hosted solution. It'll mean the forum being down for a couple of days, but it won't be happening for a while yet as investigations continue (and we're paid up till next Spring regarding hosting fees anyway). There'll be prior notification of any changes under a separate thread so watch out for more info!
Kev must have done something Norm,
For me, it's way better now. I don't know if it's just me, because no other forum users have commented. Apart from Steve C. who's got his own line of defence.
For the sake of it, I'll gather the feedback from other car clubs, in case it's still of interest.
I was also getting a full page ad across the screen which disappeared when I clicked the little x in the corner to close it. Only happened every first log on to the forum and was a bit awkward on the phone screen but yeah, seems to have stopped.
Haven't seen a pop up for a couple of days. I was wondering what was different....
Yep, MUCH better
I reckon we'd been 'Ad :)
Yes it’s back to normal now, pass on the complements to Kev for a job well done.
It was a right pain every time you clicked onto a different thread or even trying to log on the top task bar.
but it’s definitely gone for me too. Dave
Well done Kev!!
If you can do that, getting that engine to run should be a doddle!
Yep gone I was getting them all the time
I glad everyone is happy, the ads were frustrating myself as well. They might make an appearance again, but not for paying members
I am still unable to get the member map to work as I wanted, I might need to look for addon that is still supported for the 21st century.
Hosting fees are renewed in Feb 2025. So gives me a bit of time to get things arranged, but should have more updates in the coming weeks.
Kev, based on my knowledge of technology, I think you are a b---dy genius !!!!!!
Many thanks for your efforts to date in reducing our frustration count.
Robin.
'Just to wrap this up, even though it's probably not important now.
