Picked up this $20 (plus shipping) gauge on eBay.com last week, 60mm diameter mechanical gauge made by Veglia Borletti, just needs some reworking on the lettering and the bezel repainting.
Proper result!

Whoops Guy... linkies!
You mean this? That is a real result all right.
Thank Peter, still learning this computer stuff! It may be too late.... Anyway, here are the pics I meant to post!
Still wondering what a Nuova Didoni is though!

Thats a good find, the right diameter & the correct format dual needle to boot.
Can you make it work as a temp gauge?
I very much doubt it Craig but I haven't opened it up yet to see. I was toying with the idea of a new face for it saying "oil temp & water temp" but leaving it reading oil pressure and fuel pressure and then refacing other gauges to match the correct styles/wording but performing other functions such as oil temperature on an "oil pressure gauge", I'm sure you know what I mean but the mere thought of looking at a gauge that says oil temperature and going through a thought process to realise it's actually oil pressure isn't worth the hassle when a gauge starts reading something other than "normal"..... Plus I'd end up needing an extra gauge as the original Gp4 car never had a fuel pressure gauge. Yup, it's a dilemma alright!
Next problem will be finding matching 60mm gauges with the correct needle deflections to modify for the remaining functions. Do these builds ever finish? Probably not...

Go on Guy I can't see you suffer any longer I will give you £50 and take a chance....
I think you know the answer to that in your heart of hearts Ian...
Are you making any progress with your gauge manufacturers?
Guy
Slowly yes, just waiting for the next set of proofs......
Odd really when you send them the artwork in the format they ask for, then send them back to you changed....!
Wont be as good as yours mind
Guy, since its internals are basically a voltmeter, it will be a fairly simple job to recalibrate to the signal coming from the senders. (I think!)
Sorry Chris, the input to the gauge is mechanical, two hydraulic lines, one for oil pressure from where the electrical sender will be removed and another from the fuel line where a t piece will need to be fitted. Both with isolators in the engine bay of course! There isn't any illumination in the gauge either - it's provided through the two slots on the top of the gauge through green foil (that will have to be changed for clear!)

Ignoring anything I say is always a sound strategy!
Is that the same strategy in work Chris?
Well, I tried to find an answer to your question, but came up short, I knew 'nuova' means 'new', but the only two things that I could find on 'Didoni' is that it is a font type or an old Italian family name. So it could be the font type for the gauge, but why would they print that on the gauge.
Well I've finally had a reply from the seller who told me it came out of a mid '80s March Indycar. i guess that makes it rarer that a Gp4 Stratos... but I still don't know what a "Nuova Didoni" is/was!

Hi Guy, i spoke to Roberto about it and he says he's never heard of Didoni and it doesn't directly translate. He suggested it might have been made for a commercial vehicle like a tractor.
Dave
This guy seems to produce replica Veglia guages Italparts (look under guages Veglia). I haven't a clue how much he charges for them. Could be an expensive group buy.
Does Roberto have a source for the GRPIV guages?
