Brackets for License Plate Molding
Hello!
I am thinking about to let produce some brackets to accept a standard license plate molding for the front of the Stratos.
Whats the best way to solve this issue to let the license plate hold strong and let enough air go through?

Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
That'll nicely block off all the cooling air to the radiator. Shaped brackets are already available that curve the number plate to follow the profile of the nose. Some owners cars have special numberplates fitted that allow maximum cooling air flow.
Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
LOL :D
You wont find 30 euro brackets to hold on the number plate on my car (the one in your pics you have used to mock up, if you were un-aware....)
and as John says that's exactly why I don't put one there
Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
Ideally, that opening needs to stay as an opening and not be reduced or blocked by a registartion plate. Its difficult enough cooling a V6 with the whole area in the air stream. Theres ways and means but i'm not at liberty to say ;)
Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
Thanks for the input guys.
I know a guy who made the brackets and license plate mounting similar to the idea described above.
Anyway, how did you solve the issue for the front license plate?

You couldn't fit something like that Guy, i mean thats just wrong, it'd swing up out of the way at speed surely?

Of course not John, by the time the car is on the road corrosion would have set in and it'd never move? Just wanted to point out a slightly less expensive mounting method.

Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
Are there stainless ones? I know they do ally ones.
Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
The only problem with the hinge method it that you need to make the grill with a pocket or further back for .. swing room
Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
Another modification for me to make..
Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
And at slow speeds it swings about and attracts attention........ needs a gently weighted spring for a professional job.

I did a little research on street legal cars. License plate is mounted mostly on same position:

Well, the size of Austrian license plate is fixed (see third pic of the blue car). No smaller sizes. :(

Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
Nail it to the bottom of the grille? Drill lots of holes in the black part? Fit an air dam below the grille and fit it to one side? There are options!
At the end of the day the critical thing is to be able to get enough airflow through the radiator core to cool the engine. I've said it before and I'll say it again, ducting from the nose clip to the front of the radiator, especially over the top of the radiator, to force what gets through the grille through the core is really really important. The size of the mesh on the grill matters too, too small and it blocks too much, too big and it won't protect the core from stones. Finally, the way the grill mesh is bent matters, there's an open profile and a closed profile on expamet.

Just paint it on the grille here - that'd do wouldn't it John? ;)

Re: Brackets for License Plate Molding
Hi guys!
Some time ago i introduced my plan to let produce brackets/mounts for front license plate.
Well i let do some and now they are ready. The mounts are made out of 3,5 mm aluminium and anodized black. Size is 10 cm x 7 cm. Perfect to fit a small (or even normal size) license plate properly. Drilling holes to fit to the front of car is individual and left to the builder.
I have made not only a set for my car but also made a few more (3 sets).
So if you want some send me a PM. Price would be Euro 25,- for the pair.
