MST's MK1 and Mk2 Escort recreations are amazing, I'm sure this 6R4 will be equally impressive. And very expensive.....
Re: A 'new' version of another iconic rally car
Saw this yesterday.................all carbon fibre. Ill be interested to see what V6 engine is going to be installed as the original engines are super rare now. Also MBE Race Engines who built my Alfa V6 told me that the original engines had to be stripped and refreshed every 1000 miles due to the crank bearings white metal having problems. He had tried all different bearings but with same result............

Looks like an Audi Engine is going to be used..................

Did you know?
Although 2WD, the 6R4 was derived from the 1960s Rover P6BS V8. The 6R4s transmission design is very similar, as is the position of the engine.
This is probably why a Rover V8 fits a 6R4 bell housing.
I think the Rover mid engined concept car is still in Gaydon museum, so anyone going to the AGM can have a look.
Re: A 'new' version of another iconic rally car
I forsee an appearance on Mastermind for you Chris.
And why not?
I heard that the Rover V8 was originally a Buick design. Is that the same engine?
I remember that Rover prototype. I see design similarities with the Ginetta G15 there.
Wasn't this the same era that they were developing turbine technology too?
Re: A 'new' version of another iconic rally car
I look at that and see - a Fulvia rear screen! Or something very similar?

Yes, the Rover 3.5 was originally a Buick engine.
John Tojeiro was instrumental in bringing the engine to the U.K. (pre Rover) for use in his mid engined sports racer, the 'Tojeiro EE'.
Incidentally, that's one good reason why Rover engined 289 Cobras shouldn't be looked down on.

It does look a bit Fulvia Coupe doesn't it Guy?
Re: A 'new' version of another iconic rally car
I have recently noticed more than one genuine 6R4 fitted with Jaguar AJ-V6.
As in, still with all the original 6R4 transmission.
Re: A 'new' version of another iconic rally car
Ah yes indeed Guy. Rear screen does look familiar.
I'm glad my own ageing brain remembered the Buick connection. After I posted I doubted myself thinking "was that the 2300 GM engine I was thinking of", reputedly a four cylinder engine being half of a V8, but now I'm thinking that was a Chrysler engine.
A good series for the tele would be 'Auto family trees'. Similar format to 'Rock family trees'.

For the purists you can also buy the critical correct Transmission
