    Re: Busso V6 engine numbers

They do look for the engine number, but if itís difficult to see they accept a photo. Once you are confident itís correct, why not just refresh it with some number/letter stamps? Avoid the angst of a...

That tests the eyes doesn't it! I get AR16105 002542

How about trying to get a uniform sheen on the base material with a Scotchbrite or similar pad, moving in one direction? The engraving marks...

    Re: Busso V6 engine numbers

It’s reasonably visible once fully plumbed Leigh, although you might need a camera! As long as the numbers match(!) donor V5 is fine. That’s what I’ll be using for mine.

    166 gearknob

Bit of a long shot, but with all the interest in fitting period accurate gear knobs, I wonder if anyone has a decent OEM Alfa 166 gear knob going spare? I have one already, but it's pretty tired and...

...and the final product. Not exactly elegant, but it'll work for an emergency spare key. I suppose I could print a car-shaped body for it? :)

    Re: Spare Key

Quick update on this. After a couple of minor glitches, sorted with help from Graham, we have success. The first issue was with me using the wrong format for extracting the data, easy fix, the second...

    Re: Spare Key

Fantastic, thank you for all that - makes perfect sense.. I've just ordered the same programmer, once it makes it's way from China I'll get busy.

I'll bother you again once I have that data dump...

    Re: Spare Key

Mmmm, interesting. The donor for my project came with 2 keys, but one was the valet key, so pretty useless as it stands. If I could make it a working key that would be great.

    Did you DIY the data...

Re: Yet another non Stratos related project !!

I watch a load of these car shows where they resurrect a rusted hulk worthy of nothing but scrap, and while I have huge admiration for the skill and effort, I always wonder how long before the tin...

Re: Yet another non Stratos related project !!

Hopefully we never stop learning. My example, I recently learned not to try and paint a chassis at home in a tent....

So what's the next project on the production line then?

Re: Yet another non Stratos related project !!

Nowt wrong with a few wires, fuses, relays and switches Phil. PDU’s probably make sense for a high-end motorsport application where the significant cost is less of a factor...and in mass production...

Re: Yet another non Stratos related project !!

Looking good Phil. Re the wiring, everyone seems to be fitting fancy PDU’s these days. Does away with all the fuses and relays...and no doubt a chunk of the bank balance too.

    Re: Engine block lightening

I'd imagine there are very small gains to be had given it’s aluminium. The crank, flywheel, cams and pulleys are by far the heaviest parts I think.

That’s the nicest Martini interpretation I’ve seen on a Stratos. Works so well with the shape.

Thanks to the kindness of strangers (@Strat Fan & Neil63) I now have spares for these things, plus a few more too - thank you very much chaps, very much appreciated.
