There's been a lot of discussion on this car on different forums.
Some people were of the opinion that it may have been a Recce Car.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but if anyone has any info regarding location of this car I'd like to try and find it. I should have tried when I first saw it in mcklein's book years ago but I was a broke student at the time.
Locally it has a mythical quality - there are thousands of stories about where it is/who owns it/that it was sold for a fortune to a collector.
edit: just dug out mckleins book and noticed he says it belongs to an italian, I imagine it would be impossible to get him to part with it if it were still here.

It's back in Italy, restoration is nearing completion apparently.
