What steering racks did Lancia use?
What steering racks did Lancia use?
The steering arms (and rack mount position) on a Stratos are forward of the axle line, with the pinion below the rack.
The Triumph Herald also this arrangement.
Another one with a similar set up is the Ferrari 246/308. So my guess is that the Stratos rack has more to do with Ferrari than Fiat? It's just a guess though.
The X1/9/Monte have the rack mount and steering arms behind the axle line, with the pinion above the rack, so no use on a Stratos. Not if mounted the right way up, that is. You sit that bit further back in an X1/9 compared to a Stratos, where you're nearly on the top of the front wheels. No wonder some find the skewed seat to pedals angle a bit odd?
Guy, the link's not working. Anyway, some more news : this wheel is not just Uracco, it's on all Countach LP400's as well. Not sure if that makes it easier, or harder, to find one ! So far, we're coming up blank.
Thanks
David
