    Munari Stratos in South Africa

Does anyone know the story behind this picture.?
Was it just abandoned by the team.

Now, given that there's a Fiat Uno in the shot, I'm sure this tub has no connection with the second ex works car that the Chequered Flag bought (the one that was found in Africa painted yellow).

It isn't Munari's 1976 Safari car, because it's in 1975 colours. Maiga co drove for Munari in 1976, but not in that car. Would they bother to write the names on practice car? In the Thomas Popper list (Trow book), Maiga only co drove for Munari in cars with the later (1976 - 1977) Alitalia colour scheme. 'Never in 1975.

It isn't Munari's 1975 Safari car either. Unless Maiga's name was already written on the doors and there wasn't time to put Lofty Drews name on? My best guess (at the moment) is that it could be this car.

Has anyone got a photo of Munari's 1975 Safari car, showing the names on the doors?
It's the car on the front cover of the Trow book.

You'd think that, by now, the where abouts of all the Stratos made would be known. I suppose that in reality given that we can't even be sure where all the road going replicas are that it's no surprise there are well defined areas of doubt and uncertainty

It is a sad picture though. Trying to peer past the dog outside the car it does look like the whole front is missing.

The first Alitalia colour scheme was only used during 1975.
Maiga didn't co-drive for Munari during 1975. So was it a practice car for the 1976 Safari, or some other rally in 1976? All cars entered from the beginning of 1976 would have the later Alitalia colour scheme.

The make shift roof scoop is exactly the same as the CF2 had when they picked it up.

Don't see any safari spare wheel mount points on the roof and it looks like the aeriel was in the middle of the roof. Safari cars were on a rear corner of the roof to clear the roof framework.

1975 Safari cars didn't carry the spare on the roof John. It was over the boot, and the aerial was in the usual middle of roof position.
It's the name on the door that has me foxed??

I can only think that they left another one behind the following year from when the CF picked up theirs?

I agree, it's a real puzzle, judging by these other photos multiple body parts were dumped in the same location - what a find.
