    Rally Stage...Spectators...Snow

Have a watch of this video.

To me it looks like the spectators have kicked snow over the hairpin corner.
Adds to the 'arse out entertainment' but wouldn't be on your notes and may not be seen in time to correct.

Notice how they cheer when the driver gets it right but fall very silent when they crash. Looks like a big drop over the edge.

And yes there are a couple of Stratos in there

How would you feel if you crashed your pride and joy on that corner?

    Thoughts

Yes that's deliberately kicked onto the braking area and corner. It's a age old problem - rocks placed on corners being more common. I take it the roads aren't closed?

IIRC They did similar to Vatanen on Pikes peak?

It's not on and very dangerous.

I will Check with my friend Yvonne Mehta get a proffesionals opinion.

Here is the reply I got from Yvonne on Facebook,
She is the wife and navigator of the late Shekhar Mehta.

" They should be hung, drawn and quartered. Standing on the outside of the hairpin isn't very clever either. Yes, it did happen a couple of times. Once in the Acropolis rally spectators had put gravel on a fast right hand bend just before the flying finish. We spin and went through the control backwards. Funny but it could have been nasty as we were on full slicks on Tarmac on a steep mountain side. Stage was called Distomon I think. In Kenya spectators had out a small, tree across the road. The idea being that we would have to stop and move it and they would rob us!! Didn't work as we drove off-road into the bush and went round it. I was navigating another girl at the time In a Datsun. Hope you're well."

Found some pics of Shekhar and Yvonne with a Stratos.

Thats Yvonne with her back turned

I do not think Shekhar drove a Stratos in competition but he must have tested.

I met Shekhar Mehta at an Indian wedding in Southall many years ago - he was a quiet very un-assuming man. I think I must have bowled him over with my incessant questioning on the Safari Rally - no one else knew who he was ! Nice to see the pics - the Marlboro Strat looks incomplete without the spoilers!
