    Question Origin of the word

I'm delivering some leadership training at work, and came across this during my research

    Origin

Late 15th century (originally denoting a military ploy): from French stratagème, via Latin from Greek stratēgēma, from stratēgein ‘be a general’, from stratēgos, from stratos ‘army’ + agein ‘to lead’.

So it would appear that 'Stratos' is the ancient Greek word for army, something which I had not known about before

    That's interesting.

I remember when I had my first Exige a French friend told me it translated in French as something that was pretty demanding and and a task that was fairly hard work. That seemed appropriate.

    Re: Origin of the word

Yes interesting - according to my Shorter Oxford Dictionary (2 volumes thick enough to support a Stratos while changing a wheel) a Stratocracy is " government or political control by the army; military rule " from the greek word as you said. Always thought is was from the Latin for layers, clouds etc . You live and learn !
