Eric will be making a reappearance at some point tho' Phil?
Coincidences !
Whilst taking Nellie to Calais on Thursday afternoon, an Irish chap came up whilst I was waiting for my crossing and started talking about Nellie and how he used to Navigate for someone who used to rally them many years ago… in fact he said “I was with him yesterday”….. ok I said “what’s his name ?”……. “Billy Coleman” he said…. “have you heard of him?” he enquired…. You can imagine how the conversation went from there…
Half an hour later whilst still waiting for my now delayed crossing another chap came over and began to chat away with me…. Turns out he was a rally man who had a Mk2 Escort 2.5JRE and the last Metro 6R4… he also knew David Appleby who did a lot of the development work on the 6R4 with Tony Pond…. I also know David as he crewed Jerry Bailey’s Aston Martin Rally GT on Tour Britannia a few years ago.
By now it was my time to move off to the next stage of the queuing process… I parked up in line and after 5 minutes the lane to the left of me started filling up… then directly along side me pulled up a very excited Belgian chap saying that he had just bought a white Strato’s with Red and Green stripes !!..... unfortunately I did not have time to talk to him too much as my lane started to move so I had to go !
On the way home whilst queuing and stopping for fuel and something to eat….. not one person spoke to the guy with the empty trailer………..
Yours Sincerely
A grief stricken Phil…..sob !
This all goes to prove that all most people care about is looks. If you're just a bloke with a trailer you're Philly-No-Mates, but if you've got something out of the ordinary, they're all over ya. We on here, however, know better, and we'll always make time to be friends with a fella with a trailer...you never know when he'll come in handy for transporting yer Strat about (ahem)
Wonder if that Belgian guy has just bought Nigel Wilkinson's old car, currently on the Car & Classic website? That's white with red and green stripes...the seller did email me about advertising it on here and I told him to go ahead, although he'd have to register, but it never showed up so maybe it was a bit too complicated or summat.
Anyway Phil, sad day to see the old warhorse go (the car, not Helen), but you made a few friends!
I knew I could rely on you Normy...!!
I assume it was Nigel's old car but I didn't have time to talk to him and his trailer was a covered outfit.... I don't know of another white Strato's withe red and green stripe down the side and red wheels for sale ??
anyway whichever one it is the tow car had Belgian plates
