    Pirelli Tyre Option

At the Autosport show this weekend I took a quick breather from Gerrys stand to rest my voice and wandered onto the Pirelli stand to make enquiries about some spare 345*35*15 tyres for stock against the day mine wear out. Bad news, none available at the moment, good news, when pushed, was that there is a "secret stock" that might be released to deserving cases. I might qualify WHEN I actually need them but not until then.

We then had a further discussion about the best tyres for the Stratos and this is where it is getting a little more exciting. I was showed an Italian brochure and it's English equivalent on a laptop detailing various tyres that are coming to the market in the next few months as a direct response to the demand from the historic rallying scene for alternatives to the Michelin range.

Included in this range will be tyres to suit the Gp4 Stratos in the original sizes used in period with the same style as the original but using a variety of modern rubbers. They'll be in touch as soon as the new tyres are available so I guess it's time to get the spare set of coffin spokes out of the loft and painted in anticipation! Watch this space!

That is indeed good news, I've just found this interesting link regarding the new tyres - Happy days.

Great news, I always felt uncomfortable running Michelin tyres on a Pirelli liveried car.

Did they give any clue as to price, now it's a captive market?

    Re: Pirelli Tyre Option

I'm hoping it'll be a more readily available tyre so we can shop around for better a price, maybe we could organise an SEC group buy as I'm sure we could make up some decent numbers.

I always thought it was odd that on the 2009 Rally Legend event they had a huge Pirelli truck, with a Pirelli marquee and a 1978 Pirelli Strato's stood on their stand and it was sitting there on Michelin tyres - How embarrassing!

    Re: Pirelli Tyre Option

I guess I could organise something but only if the numbers were sufficient to gain us a significant discount, looks like the tyres will be available in March. We could start adding names to an interest list and see what sort of numbers we're talking about, so far we have:

Guy Mayers: 1 Set (Grp IV)
Vince Abbott: 1 Set (Grp IV)

Vince, I will go for a set of GRPIV's if we can get a deal.
